Impact Rodon was hit hard out of the gates, surrendering doubles to Francisco Lindor and Jose Ramirez, prior to being taken yard by Carlos Santana in the first inning. He settled in for the middle portion of his start, but appeared to lose energy in the fourth inning, walking the bases loaded prior to being pulled. While it wasn't a strong performance in the box score, Rodon's velocity ticked up as he went deeper into his start, and he also generated 10 swinging strikes on 71 total pitches. He'll look to improve on this performance during his next turn through the rotation, though he's penciled in for a tough matchup at Milwaukee on Monday.

Impact This was Rodon's second outing since having Tommy John surgery 14 months ago. Despite the home runs -- two by Edwin Encarnacion and one by Tim Anderson -- the left-hander was pleased with his slider. "Slider was sharp, fastball was decent, close to almost all the way," Rodon said. "A couple of missed pitches, things we can get better at, and good thing these don't count." It's unclear where Rodon stands when the season opens. He's almost certain to be part of the rotation at some point during the season, but that may not happen immediately.

Impact The action marked the first time Rodon has thrown off the mound at Guaranteed Rate Field since May 2019. "As far as stuff, the ball feels like it was coming out good," Rodon told Scott Merkin of MLB.com. "Today it (velocity) was a little down, and the last BP it was coming out really well. Hopefully, this next go around next five days I get that recovery I need, and I step on the mound and it's back." Rodon added a needs to get up and down a few more times and try to hit the 90-pitch mark before the start of the season. The left-hander may not be part of the rotation to start the season, but he could pitch multiple innings as a reliever (or opener).

Says he's close to 100 percent Rodon (elbow) threw three innings and 45 pitches during a live batting practice session Sunday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Impact Rodon, who underwent Tommy John surgery last May, described himself as close to 100 percent following the session. He threw all of his pitches, including a fastball he termed "electric." Rodon is next scheduled to pitch in an intra-squad game Friday. The left-hander should be ready to hurl for the White Sox during the 2020 season, but he may not have a spot in the rotation right away. The White Sox currently have five healthy starters, so Rodon may have to bounce between the rotation and bullpen.
