INJURIES

Cut loose by Houston The Astros released Garcia on June 26.
Impact Garcia made four starts in the big leagues for Detroit in 2022, but after landing in Houston on February on a minor-league deal, he never pitched well enough at Triple-A Sugar Land to earn a look with the Astros. Over his 49 innings in the Pacific Coast League, Garcia pitched to a 6.98 ERA, 2.14 WHIP and 39:45 K:BB.

Reassigned to minors camp Garcia was reassigned to minor-league camp by the Astros on Thursday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact Garcia has allowed just two runs over 12.1 innings this spring but still finds himself on the outside looking in for a roster spot. It's not clear whether the 27-year-old will be used as a starter or reliever -- or both -- at Triple-A Sugar Land.
MARCH 23, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Inks minors deal with Houston Garcia agreed to a minor-league contract with the Astros on Tuesday that includes an invitation to major-league spring training, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact Garcia posted a 3.54 ERA in four starts with the Tigers last season, though he did also issue 10 walks over his 20.1 total big-league frames. He surrendered 25 free passes in 39.1 innings of relief with Detroit in 2021, spoiling a promising showing from the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign. The 27-year-old right-hander will likely be viewed as organizational bullpen depth leading into Astros camp.

Sent to Triple-A Garcia cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Toledo on Thursday.
Impact Garcia joined Detroit for a start during the final week of the season, and he picked up the win against Seattle after he allowed three earned runs over 6.2 frames. He pitched well in limited action at the big-league level last year and had a 3.54 ERA and 1.18 WHIP across 20.1 innings.
NOVEMBER 11, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Beats Seattle for second win Garcia (2-0) earned the win over the Mariners on Monday, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six batters over 6.2 innings.
Impact Garcia was called up earlier in the day to make his first major-league start since Aug. 15. He allowed a run in the first frame but bounced back by keeping Seattle off the scoreboard over the next three innings. The right-hander yielded another run in the fifth and departed with two outs in the seventh, after which one more run was posted to his final line. Garcia finished with a season-best six punchouts and his second quality start of the campaign. This was his first season working as a starter in the majors, and he finished with a respectable 3.54 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 17:10 K:BB over 20.1 innings.

Call-up official The Tigers recalled Garcia from Triple-A Toledo ahead of his scheduled start Monday in Seattle.
Impact Lefty Joey Wentz was demoted to the minors Sunday to clear a spot on the active roster for Garcia, who is set to make his fourth start of the season for Detroit. Over his previous three outings in the big leagues spanning 13.2 innings, Garcia was charged with five earned runs on nine hits and eight walks while striking out 11.

Set to start Monday Garcia will be called up from Triple-A Toledo to start Monday against the Mariners, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Impact Garcia was last in the majors in mid-August and delivered a quality start against Cleveland, and he'll rejoin the big-league rotation once more during the final week of the season. The 27-year-old has a 3.29 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 11:8 K:BB in 13.2 frames across his three starts for Detroit this year.

Nabs win in nightcap Garcia (1-0) struck out five and allowed three earned runs on five hits and no walks to come away with the victory Monday in the Tigers' 7-5 win over the Guardians in the second ga...
Impact Called up from Triple-A Toledo in advance of the twin bill to make his third start of the season, Garcia delivered his best outing to date. After issuing six free passes over four scoreless innings his last time out against the Rays on Aug. 5, Garcia was far more efficient Monday while throwing 61 of his 88 pitches for strikes. The only blemishes on his line came in the fourth inning, when Andres Gimenez and Luke Maile took him deep for a two-run and a solo home run, respectively. Garcia is likely to be optioned back to Toledo on Tuesday, but he should be one of the Tigers' top options for a call-up the next time the team needs a spot starter.

Impact Garcia was sent down by the Tigers in early August but will serve as a spot starter during Monday's nightcap. Over two major-league starts this year, he's posted a 2.35 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in 7.2 innings.

Optioned to Triple-A Garcia was optioned to Triple-A Toledo following his start Friday against the Rays, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Impact He gave up zero earned runs on one hit and six walks while striking out three in four innings while making a spot start. Garcia could come back up the next time the Tigers need a fill-in starter.

Contract selected to start Friday Garcia had his contract selected by the Tigers, and he will start Friday's game against the Rays.
Impact The right-hander was previously announced as Detroit's starter for Friday's contest, and he's now officially been added to the big-league roster. Garcia made his season debut in a spot start for the Tigers last week and was demoted after giving up two runs on three hits with three strikeouts and two walks across 3.2 innings.

Arozarena leads Rays against the Tigers after 4-hit outing

The Tampa Bay Rays take on the Detroit Tigers after Randy Arozarena had four hits on Thursday in a 6-2 win over the Tigers
AUGUST 5, 2022 • Associated Press
Returning Friday for another start Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Garcia will be called up from Triple-A Toledo to start Friday's game against the Rays, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Impact Garcia will be joining the Tigers for his second Friday start in a row, as he previously took the hill last weekend in Toronto and took a no-decision while giving up two earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out three in 3.2 innings. Since Garcia was added to the roster last week as a COVID-19 replacement for Andrew Chafin, the Tigers will need to formally add the right-hander back to the 40-man roster so he can make his spot start versus Tampa Bay. Garcia could be headed back to the minors immediately following his upcoming start, as the Tigers should get Beau Brieske (forearm) back from the injured list when a fifth member of the rotation is needed next week.

Sent down after spot start Garcia was optioned to Triple-A Toledo after his start Friday against the Blue Jays, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Impact He gave up two earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out three in 3.2 innings during the spot start. This was his 73rd appearance in the majors but just his first appearance as a starter. Garcia has generally been going between one and four innings down on the farm, and his most likely MLB role moving forward is still probably as a reliever.

Reyes has three hits, Castro HRs, Tigers beat Blue Jays 4-2

Willi Castro homered for the second time in two games, Victor Reyes had three hits, and the Detroit Tigers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-2
JULY 30, 2022 • Associated Press
Getting first MLB start Garcia is listed as the Tigers' starting pitcher for Friday's game in Toronto.
Impact Making the 73rd MLB appearance of his career, Garcia will be getting his first look as a starter after recently moving into the rotation at Triple-A Toledo prior to his call-up Wednesday. While starting in his last three outings for Toledo, Garcia didn't cover more than four innings any time out and turned in an unremarkable 6:6 K:BB, so he doesn't shape up as an appealing streaming option while he takes on a strong Toronto offense on the road.
