Called up, could start Friday The Tigers selected Garcia's contract from Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Impact According to Beck, Garcia is expected to temporarily move into the rotation for Friday's game in Toronto, which would mark the 27-year-old's first start in his first 73 appearances in the big leagues. Perhaps as a reaction to the numerous personnel losses the Tigers have suffered to their rotation this season, Garcia recently transitioned into a starting role for Toledo. He maxed out at four innings over his three starts for the Triple-A affiliate, so the Tigers likely won't bank on him working deep into the game if he does in fact receive the starting nod Friday versus the Blue Jays.

Impact Coming off of a productive 2020 campaign in which he posted a 1.66 ERA across 21.2 innings, Garcia has struggled with a 7.50 ERA across 35.2 innings this year. It's been even more of a struggle lately, as the righty had allowed five runs (four earned) in 2.2 innings this month before Tuesday's more encouraging effort. Garcia doesn't miss a ton of bats, so his margin for error is fairly small. He should stick in a middle relief role for the Tigers over the final few weeks of the season.
