Designated for assignment Raley was designated for assignment by the Reds on Thursday.

Impact Raley made his return to the majors this season after spending the past five seasons in Korea, but he was inconsistent across four relief appearances with the Reds. Although he pitched a scoreless inning with one strikeout Wednesday against Cleveland, the southpaw will be removed from the 40-man roster. Raley recorded a 9.00 ERA, 1.75 WHIP and 6:2 K:BB over four innings as a reliever this year. Right-hander Jose De Leon was recalled from the Reds' alternate training site to take Raley's place in the bullpen.

Bullpen bright spot Though the Reds' bullpen has really struggled, Sims has started well, throwing 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out five.

Impact Sims hasn't been put into too many high-leverage situations yet, though he did quell a rally by the Cubs on Wednesday after Brooks Raley faced five batters without retiring a batter. With Robert Stephenson injured, Sims has moved one step up the ladder in the Reds bullpen.

Impact When the Reds have to cut down from 30 to 28 and eventually 26 players on the roster, Raley is a good bet to not make the cut.
