Impact Sullivan was the unlikely difference-maker in Wednesday's victory. In his fifth MLB start, the 29-year-old rookie got the Padres' offense started with a two-run double in the second inning before cranking a two-run homer off Alex Young in the fourth. In two at-bats, Sullivan recorded the first two extra-base hits, home run and RBIs of his Major League career. He's now 4-for-17 with a walk this season. Sullivan could see additional opportunities, backing up Austin Nola behind the plate while Luis Campusano (thumb) remains sidelined.

Making big-league debut Tuesday Sullivan will start at catcher and bat ninth in his MLB debut Tuesday against Atlanta.

Impact The 29-year-old could get a handful of starts behind the plate for the Padres while Luis Campusano recovers from a left thumb sprain. Dealt to San Diego The Padres acquired Sullivan and outfielder Korry Howell from the Brewers on Wednesday in exchange for catcher Victor Caratini, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.

Impact Much like Austin Nola, Sullivan is primarily a catcher, but one that also possesses the athleticism to play the corner outfield or corner infield in a pinch as needed. His addition allows the Padres to maintain their organizational catching depth with Caratini headed to Milwaukee, though Sullivan will face a tougher path to earning a role in the big leagues in San Diego. In addition to Nola, the Padres have two other catchers (Jorge Alfaro and Luis Campusano) on the 40-man roster who are both presumably ahead of Sullivan in the pecking order. Sullivan is expected to report to Triple-A El Paso with his new organization.

Impact The versatile Sullivan had been hopeful to break camp with the Brewers as a No. 3 catcher and reserve option in the infield and outfield, but the fact that he has minor-league options remaining likely worked against him in his bid for the Opening Day roster. The 28-year-old will thus have to wait longer to make his MLB debut, though the fact that he possesses a spot on the 40-man roster bodes well for his chances of earning a call-up if the Brewers' position-player depth is tested at any point.

Signs with Brewers Sullivan agreed to a one-year, major-league contract with the Brewers on Monday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

Impact The news of a major-league deal comes as something of a surprise, as Sullivan is a 27-year-old with zero major-league experience. He wasn't particularly good at the Triple-A level last season, either, hitting .223/.302/.375 across 90 games, but the Brewers evidently feel he adds something as an extra catcher who can also provide cover at the infield and outfield corners.
