Could be next man up in rotation Waddell might be an option for the Mets' rotation this season, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.

Impact New York has already seen Sean Manaea (oblique) and Frankie Montas (lat) go down this spring, with both pitchers expected to begin the season on the injured list. If the spate of injuries continues, Waddell could find himself in the mix for some March or April starts. The 30-year-old southpaw hasn't pitched in the majors since 2021, spending the last three years in the KBO, and after signing a minor-league contract with the Mets in December, the team would need to find room for him on the 40-man roster to add him to the big-league rotation.

Inks MiLB deal with NYM Waddell agreed to a minor-league contract with the Mets on Monday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

Impact Waddell hasn't seen any MLB action since 2021 during stops in Minnesota, St. Louis and Baltimore, and he's spent the last three seasons overseas with the Doosan Bears of the Korean Baseball Organization. The southpaw has revitalized his career in the KBO, posting a 2.98 ERA and 1.13 WHIP with a 215:65 K:BB through 144.1 innings over this three-year stretch. Waddell will be a strong candidate to begin the 2025 season at Triple-A Syracuse.

Heads overseas The Cardinals sold Waddell's contract to the Korea Baseball Organization's Doosan Bears on Wednesday.

Impact According to Jee-ho Yoo of the Yonhap News Agency, Waddell will earn $230,000 for the remainder of the 2022 KBO season while pitching for Doosan. Waddell made nine relief appearances in the majors between three different teams in 2021, but he's pitched exclusively at Triple-A Memphis in the Cardinals organization in 2022. Over 30 innings at Triple-A, he posted a 3.30 ERA and 1.33 WHIP.

Outrighted off roster The Cardinals outrighted Waddell to Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Impact St. Louis never formally announced that Waddell was designated for assignment, but he evidently went unclaimed off waivers and will remain in the organization. Waddell will lose his place on the 40-man roster, however, with his spot going to fellow reliever Andre Pallante, who was informed he would be part of the Cardinals' Opening Day bullpen.
