Option to start Tuesday Bielak will be available in relief Monday versus the Rangers but is an option to start Tuesday against the Rockies, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Impact Bielak was recalled earlier Monday following a brief stint back in the minors. J.P. France is on turn to start Tuesday and remains an option, as well, but he could get pushed back a day depending on whether Framber Valdez (ankle) is ready.
JULY 3, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Back in majors The Astros recalled Bielak from Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Impact Bielak will return to Houston as a replacement for Shawn Dubin, who had previously been called up from Sugar Land on June 18 to fill Bielak's spot on the 26-man active roster. Though he made just one start for Sugar Land during his brief time in the minors, Bielak showed well in that June 24 outing, covering six innings while allowing one earned run on five hits and one walk. Bielak looks poised to re-enter the Houston rotation the next time the team requires a fifth starter Friday versus the Mariners, though he could be needed as soon as Tuesday or Wednesday against the Rockies in the event Framber Valdez needs more time to recover from an ankle injury.
JULY 3, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Optioned to Sugar Land Houston optioned Bielak to Triple-A Sugar Land on Sunday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact Bielak was once again ineffective in his outing on Saturday, allowing five runs -- four earned -- on five hits over 4.2 innings versus the Reds. The right-hander will get a chance to iron things out at the minor-league level, and Houston recalled Shawn Dubin from Sugar Land in a corresponding transaction.
JUNE 18, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Another poor outing Bielak (3-4) took the loss Saturday, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits and three walks over 4.2 innings against Cincinnati. He struck out three.
Impact Bielak has allowed a season-high five runs in back-to-back starts after giving up just 15 over his first seven outings combined. The right-hander has surrendered at least one home run in seven of his nine appearances, totaling 10 over 57.1 innings. Despite Bielak's struggles, he figures to remain in the rotation until Jose Urquidy (shoulder) or Luis Garcia (elbow) returns from the injured list.
JUNE 18, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Hit around by Guardians Bielak (3-3) took the loss Sunday, allowing five runs on nine hits and two walks over five innings in a 5-0 loss to Cleveland. He struck out four.
Impact After picking up back-to-back wins in his last two appearances, Bielak fell to his third loss of the season Sunday. He allowed a season-high five runs across five innings while giving up long balls to Andres Gimenez and Josh Bell. Though Bielak sports a solid 4.01 ERA through eight starts (42.2 innings), he's struggled with the long ball (1.9 HR/9) and has allowed nine or more hits in each of his last two appearances. His next start is tentatively scheduled to come during a homestand versus Cincinnati,
JUNE 12, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Picks up third win Bielak (3-2) allowed three runs on 10 hits and a walk over 6.2 innings Monday, striking out two and earning a win over the Blue Jays.
Impact It wasn't a very clean outing for Bielak but he was given six runs of support before throwing his first pitch so he cruised to an easy win. He tied his longest outing of the year despite punching out just two batters. The 27-year-old righty is carrying a 3.35 ERA and a 30:13 K:BB through 37.2 frames. Bielak is currently lined up to start in Cleveland this weekend.
JUNE 6, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Allows just one run in win Bielak (2-2) allowed one run on three hits and three walks while striking out six over 5.2 innings to earn the win over the Twins on Tuesday.
Impact Tuesday was the third time over his last four starts that Bielak has held an opponent to one run or less. The 27-year-old blanked the Twins over his first four innings before a leadoff double and a single in the fifth finally got them on the board. He hasn't faced any majorly daunting offenses through six starts thus far, though he's shown struggles with his command and had allowed six home runs in five outings coming into Tuesday. His 5.15 FIP suggests he's had some luck on his side, but he'll figure to stick around in the rotation as long as he's getting results. Bielak will take a 3.19 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 28:12 K:BB into his next projected outing against the Angels over the weekend.

Stung by long ball in loss Bielak (1-2) took the loss Wednesday, allowing four runs on five hits and one walk over 6.2 innings against the Brewers. He struck out three.
Impact Three of Bielak's five hits allowed were home runs, including a two-run shot by Willy Adames in the first inning. Despite surrendering a season-high four runs, Wednesday's performance was actually the longest of the year for Bielak, who's drawn five consecutive starts since being recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land at the beginning of May. The right-hander holds a 3.55 ERA across 25.1 innings and figures to remain in the rotation until Jose Urquidy (shoulder), Luis Garcia (elbow) or Lance McCullers (forearm) is activated off the injured list.
MAY 24, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Steady again Friday Bielak (1-1) allowed a run on five hits and three walks while striking out nine over five innings to earn the win Friday over the Athletics.
Impact Bielak has completed five innings in each of his last two starts. He's still allowing a high number of baserunners, but other teams have yet to fully capitalize on that fact yet. The right-hander has a solid 2.89 ERA, but his 1.77 WHIP and 19:8 K:BB through 18.2 innings show that he's got a number of flaws to work out. Bielak is projected for a much tougher road start next week in Milwaukee.
MAY 20, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Allows one run over five innings Bielak did not factor in the decision against the White Sox on Saturday, allowing one run on eight hits and no walks while striking out four batters over five innings.
Impact Bielak allowed at least one hit in each of his five frames, but the only run he surrendered came on a Luis Robert homer in the fourth inning. Bielak helped his case by not issuing any walks after yielding five free passes across 8.2 frames over his first two big-league outings of the season. The right-hander is in the rotation as a result of long-term injuries to Jose Urquidy (shoulder), Lance McCullers (forearm) and Luis Garcia (elbow), and he pitched well enough Saturday to likely see additional starts. Bielak's next turn is tentatively slated to be a favorable home matchup against Oakland.
MAY 14, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Gets second turn through rotation Bielak is scheduled to make his second start with the Astros on Saturday against the White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Impact Until Lance McCullers (forearm) is deemed ready for his 2023 debut, the Astros will have room in the rotation for both Bielak and J.P. France, after the two moved into starting roles last week when Jose Urquidy (shoulder) and Luis Garcia (elbow) were shut down with long-term injuries. After having previously made his season debut with the Astros in long relief May 1, Bielak stepped into the rotation last Sunday in Seattle and took a loss after surrendering three runs (two earned) on 10 hits and two walks while failing to strike out a batter over 4.2 innings.
MAY 11, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Handed first loss Bielak (0-1) allowed three runs (two earned) on 10 hits and two walks over 4.2 innings Sunday against Seattle. He took the loss and failed to record a strikeout.
Impact Bielak had traffic on the bases nearly the entire afternoon and never found much of a groove. He escaped danger in the first two frames before serving up a solo shot to Julio Rodriguez to lead off the third. Bielak is sporting a 4.15 ERA and a 6:5 K:BB through 8.2 innings. He's currently projected for a road matchup with the White Sox next week.
MAY 7, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Starting Sunday against Mariners Astros manager Dusty Baker announced Friday that Bielak will start Sunday's game against the Mariners, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Impact Brown will start the series finale against Seattle on Sunday with Hunter Brown and Framber Valdez pitching Monday and Tuesday against the Angels. Bielak pitched reasonably well in relief of Luis Garcia on Monday with six strikeouts over four innings while allowing two runs on two hits with three walks. Bielak should be stretched out enough to qualify for a win chance while he's getting starts with the Astros, but he's far from an elite fantasy option and he'll be matchup dependent in terms of recommendation.
MAY 6, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Strikes out six in season debut Bielak did not factor into the decision during Monday's 7-3 win over the Giants, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks while striking out six over four innings.
Impact Bielak was recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday to replace Jose Urquidy, who was placed on the 15-day injured list with shoulder discomfort. Luis Garcia drew the start versus San Francisco, but his outing lasted just eight pitches due to a right elbow injury, forcing Bielak to eat up as many innings as he could. The right-hander was a bit shaky with three walks over four innings and surrendered a two-run homer to Joc Pederson, but that was the lone blemish on an otherwise successful night for Bielak. With so many injuries to Houston's rotation, Bielak, who operated as a starter and reliever in the minors, could get a spot start or two moving forward.
MAY 2, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Recalled from Triple-A Houston recalled Bielak from Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday.
Impact Bielak is the reinforcement for the Astros after Houston placed Jose Urquidy on the 15-day injured list with shoulder discomfort. The right-hander has worked as both a starter and reliever in the minors and majors, but he likely will be a multi-inning bullpen option for Houston while he's on the roster.
MAY 1, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Beginning season in minors The Astros optioned Bielak to Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Impact The righty only appeared in five games last season but was moderately effective as a multi-inning reliever in 2021, posting a 4.50 ERA in 50 innings. Barring injury or serious struggles in Sugar Land, Bielak should join the Astros at some point in the regular season.

Returned to Sugar Land Bielak was returned to Triple-A Sugar Land following Thursday's doubleheader against the Yankees, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Impact Bielak ate up a valuable 3.1 innings in the second game of the doubleheader, though he did allow three earned runs on four hits and a walk while striking out four. He'll remain on the taxi squad, so he could return to the big-league club in short order if an injury strikes the bullpen.

Gets call-up for doubleheader The Astros recalled Bielak from Triple-A Sugar Land and designated him as their 27th man for Thursday's doubleheader with the Yankees, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Impact Bielak has been working as a swingman for Sugar Land this season, but he'll be available as a multi-inning option in relief for either end of Thursday's doubleheader. The right-hander is expected to report back to Sugar Land immediately following the twin bill.
