Sent down after strong start The Athletics optioned Basso to Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday.

Impact Basso will head to Triple-A after he turned in an impressive first MLB start in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Tigers, taking a no-decision while recording six punchouts over six scoreless frames. Despite the strong showing, the Athletics will swap Basso off the active roster in favor of a fresh bullpen arm in Brandon Bielak, who was called up from Las Vegas on Sunday. Unless the Athletics place another player on a reserve list in a corresponding move, Basso will have to wait another 15 days before potentially rejoining the big club.

Impresses in first career start Basso did not factor into the decision in Saturday's loss against the Tigers, allowing three hits and one walk in six scoreless innings. He struck out six.

Impact Basso looked great in his first starting opportunity in the big leagues. The 26-year-old rookie was making his fourth appearance of his career, but this was the first one to go past two innings. Basso got into trouble in the third inning with runners on second and third with no outs, and he managed to get out of it unscathed. He should be expected to get another turn in the rotation given his strong outing against the Tigers.

Slated to start Saturday Athletics manager Mark Kotsay said that Basso will start Saturday's game against the Tigers, Jessica Kleinschmidt of the Oakland Athletics Radio Network reports.

Impact Osvaldo Bido would have been lined up to pitch Saturday, but the Athletics look set to skip his turn through the rotation, as Basso will take the hill for the penultimate game of the series, while J.T. Ginn starts Sunday's finale. Basso previous three appearances with the Athletics came as a reliever from late May through mid-June, but he had been working out of the rotation at Triple-A Las Vegas prior to his call-up Thursday and looks set to operate as a traditional starter Saturday. He covered at least five innings in four of his last five outings with Las Vegas, compiling a 2.84 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 27:4 K:BB in 25.1 innings during that stretch.

Impact Basso will give the bullpen some length. The left-hander has made three appearances for Oakland this season, allowing two runs over 3.1 innings.

Impact Basso was up in the majors for just one day and didn't make an appearance. The left-hander could still be needed in the Athletics rotation at some point given the big club's mounting injury list, but for now he'll report to Las Vegas. Basso was torched for nine earned runs over 2.1 innings in his lone start with Las Vegas this season but has put up a 2.84 ERA and 32:3 K:BB over 25.1 frames with Double-A Midland.
