INJURIES

Makes mess in extra-inning loss Hand (5-6) allowed three runs (two earned) on two hits and struck out one in one inning, taking the loss Monday versus Cleveland.
Impact The southpaw has now allowed four runs (two earned) in two innings since he was traded from Washington to Toronto at the trade deadline. Hand hasn't worked very effectively since the start of July, yielding 12 runs (nine earned) in his last 10 innings. Overall, he has a 3.83 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 43:18 K:BB through 44.2 innings overall. It's unclear if he can right the ship well enough to earn a late-inning role with his new team.

Pitches eighth inning Hand allowed one unearned run on two hits and no walks in one inning during Friday's win over the Royals.
Impact Hand made his team debut with the Blue Jays holding a four-run lead Friday, and he gave up a pair of singles to lead off the eighth inning. However, a throwing error allowed Nicky Lopez to score with no outs in the inning before the southpaw retired the next three batters he faced. Although Hand was relatively effective against Kansas City, he currently appears to be the setup man behind right-hander Jordan Romano.

Traded to Blue Jays Hand was traded from the Nationals to the Blue Jays in exchange for catcher Riley Adams on Thursday, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
Impact Hand converted 21 of his 26 save opportunities to begin the year, with three of those blown saves coming in his last six appearances, and he's recorded a 3.59 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 42.2 innings this season. The Blue Jays have shuffled through several closers this year, and while a change of scenery could help the southpaw turn things around, there's no guarantee he will displace Jordan Romano in the ninth-inning role, particularly given Hand's 7.88 ERA in July.

Secures 21st save Hand had a strikeout and didn't allow a hit or walk during a scoreless ninth inning to record the save in Tuesday's 6-4 win over the Phillies.
Impact A throwing error put a runner on second base to start the frame, but Hand quickly retired the next three batters on only seven pitches to break a streak of two straight blown saves. The veteran lefty entered Tuesday's contest with seven earned runs allowed in five appearances since the All-Star break, so it was a welcome sight to see him deliver a clean ninth inning. He's 21-for-26 in save opportunities this season and has a 3.59 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 42:18 K:BB across 42.2 innings.

Dealt third straight loss Hand (5-5) allowed three runs on two hits and a walk while striking out the only batter he retired as he took the loss versus Philadelphia on Monday.
Impact Monday marked Hand's third straight loss and second consecutive blown save. The southpaw allowed a double to Jean Segura and walked Bryce Harper before Andrew McCutchen hit a walkoff home run. Hand is now 20-for-25 in save chances with a 3.67 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 41:18 K:BB through 41.2 innings. If his struggles continue much longer, Daniel Hudson could begin to work his way into a share of the closer role. Hudson allowed two hits in a scoreless inning to earn his 15th hold Monday before Hand's meltdown.
