Cal Quantrill - No-decision SaturdayQuantrill didn't factor into the decision Saturday against the Red Sox after allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks while fanning six across seven innings.
ImpactQuantrill posted a second straight quality start, and the right-hander has been pitching extremely well of late. He has given up two or fewer earned runs in eight of his last nine outings while posting a 52:18 K:BB through 55 innings in that stretch.

Nick Wittgren - Takes loss in reliefWittgren (2-7) was tagged with the relief loss Saturday against the Red Sox after allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits across one-third of an inning.
ImpactWittgren had the task of keeping the Red Sox off the box score in the 10th inning while beginning his outing with a runner in second, and he failed miserably. The right-hander allowed a single to Kyle Schwarber and a three-run homer to J.D. Martinez -- that would be all the Red Sox would need to close things out. This was Wittgren's second straight outing allowing a homer, and he has given up six runs (three earned) over his previous seven appearances (nine innings). The six-year veteran owns a 4.56 ERA on the season.

Garrett Whitlock - Earns sixth win SaturdayWhitlock (6-2) earned the win Saturday against Cleveland after pitching a scoreless ninth inning, allowing one hit and striking out two.
ImpactWhitlock had the tough task to pitch the ninth in a tied game, but he was efficient since he needed just 14 pitches (10 strikes) to get the job done and earn his sixth win of the season. The right-hander has had some less-than-impressive efforts in two bullpen games this month, but he's been excellent most of the time and owns a blistering 1.57 ERA on the season. Plus, he has allowed just five earned runs across 25 innings (16 appearances) from July onwards.

Adam Ottavino - Records save SaturdayOttavino picked up the save Saturday in an extra-innings win over Cleveland after recording the final two outs of the game. He allowed one hit and struck out one.
ImpactThe veteran reliever entered the game with one out in the 10th inning after Martin Perez had a wild outing -- he loaded the bases and struck out Bobby Bradley before allowing Ottavino to close things out. While he allowed an unearned run following an RBI single from Oscar Mercado, he also struck out Austin Hedges and retired Andres Gimenez on a groundout to pick up his 10th save of the season. He has gone 10-for-14 in save chances while also recording 20 holds to the tune of a 3.51 ERA, so Ottavino should remain one of Boston's top late-inning arms in the final weeks of the regular season.

Nathan Eovaldi - Fans seven in no-decisionEovaldi didn't factor into the decision Saturday against Cleveland after tossing 5.1 innings of two-run ball, allowing six hits while fanning seven.
ImpactEovaldi ended just two outs away from recording a quality start, but he limited the damage to just two second-inning runs -- including a solo shot from Franmil Reyes -- while fanning seven for the second straight outings. The veteran has struck out at least six while allowing two or fewer runs in each of his last four starts. He owns a 3.71 ERA through 150.1 innings on the year.

J.D. Martinez - Socks three-run shotMartinez went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run and an additional run scored in Saturday's win over Cleveland.
ImpactMartinez made his presence felt when it mattered the most. With the game tied 2-2 in the top of the 10th inning, the veteran slugger blasted a three-run bomb off reliever Nick Wittgren and building a lead the Red Sox wouldn't relinquish the rest of the way. It was Martinez's 24th long ball of the campaign, but perhaps even more importantly, he managed to end two droughts -- an 0-for-18 slump and a nine-game homer drought.
