Cracks homer, six total hits
Wynns went 6-for-7 with a homer, six RBI and two runs scored in Sunday's 24-2 rout over Baltimore.
Impact
Wynns -- the Cincinnati backup catcher -- opened the game's scoring in the second inning with an RBI single and also plated the last runs with a three-run homer off Gary Sanchez in the ninth. In between, the 34-year-old knocked four additional singles to become the first Red with six hits in a regular-game since Phil Ervin on July 13,2019. The incredible career performance pushed Wynns' slash line to .455/.500/.727 over 27 plate appearances this season.

Getting seventh start of season
Wynns will start at catcher and bat ninth in Thursday's game against the Mariners.
Impact
With Jose Trevino resting for the day game after a night game, Wynns will crack the lineup for the seventh time in 19 games on the season. Wynns is batting .308 with a home run and two walks over 15 plate appearances, but he owns a .271 wOBA and 67 wRC+ across parts of seven seasons in the big leagues and doesn't profile as an appealing fantasy option. He'll likely lose his spot on the roster once Tyler Stephenson (oblique) is cleared to return from the injured list.

ROTOWIRE
Makes season-opening roster
The Reds selected Wynns' contract from Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday.
Impact
Wynns will open the season as the Reds' No. 2 catcher, with Jose Trevino serving as the primary starter behind the plate while Tyler Stephenson (oblique) is on the injured list. Once Stephenson is ready to be activated from the IL, Wynns will likely be cast off the 40-man roster.

Roster chance improves
Wynns' chances of a roster spot improved this week after injuries to Tyler Stephenson (oblique) and Jose Trevino (hand), Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
Impact
In the span of three days, the non-rostered Wynns looks like he'll have a spot on the Opening Day roster. Trevino's injury is less severe than Stephenson, who is facing a multiple-week absence, so Wynns may be the primary backup. The Reds could also scan the market for veteran catchers.

Hitless in spring debut
Wynns (shoulder) went 0-for-2 with a strikeout in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Giants in Cactus League action.
Impact
Wynns made his spring debut Sunday, making his return to game action for the first time since undergoing shoulder surgery in July. The catcher appeared in seven games with the Reds in 2024, batting .368 with four doubles, two RBI and three runs scored over seven games.

ROTOWIRE
Back with Cincinnati on MiLB deal
The Reds re-signed Wynns (shoulder) to a minor-league contract Jan. 13.
Impact
Wynns, 34, spent most of the 2024 season at Triple-A Louisville and suffered a season-ending teres major tear in his right shoulder in late July during one of his seven games with the Reds. It's not clear whether he'll be healthy for the start of spring training, but either way he's slated to begin 2025 at Louisville.

Elects free agency
Wynns (shoulder) declined his outright assignment to Triple-A Louisville on Saturday and elected free agency.
Impact
Wynns spent the majority of last season in Triple-A, where he slashed .250/.309/.410 across 110 plate appearances. However, a teres major tear in his right shoulder cut his season short toward the end of July. It's unknown if he'll be ready for the start of spring training, but the 33-year-old backstop should be able to at least net a minor-league deal in free agency.

Outrighted to Triple-A
The Reds outrighted Wynns to Triple-A Louisville on Friday.
Impact
Wynns is not on the 40-man roster but will remain in the organization for now. The veteran catcher suffered a right teres major tear in his right shoulder in late July and it's not clear whether he will be healthy for the start of spring training.

ROTOWIRE
Rehab assignment scheduled
Wynns (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Sept. 17, MLB.com reports.
Impact
Wynns suffered a right teres major tear but was recently cleared to throw to bases. He is on the 60-day injured list and not eligible to return until Sept. 27, two days before the end of the season. While it's possible he could make a late-season return, it wouldn't seem to be a given that he's added to the Reds' roster.

Moved to 60-day IL
The Reds transferred Wynns (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Friday.
Impact
The move doesn't officially end Wynns' season, though the catcher won't be eligible for reinstatement until Sept. 27 -- two days before the Reds' regular-season finale. Wynns sustained a right teres major strain in late July and has been on the shelf since. Luke Maile should continue to work in behind Tyler Stephenson at catcher for Cincinnati.

Suffers torn shoulder
The Reds placed Wynns on the 10-day injured list Monday with a right teres major tear.
Impact
Per Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer, Wynns sustained the injury at some point in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Rays, which may explain in part why Tampa Bay went 4-for-4 on stolen-base attempts while the catcher was behind the dish. Even if Wynns doesn't require surgery to address the injury, he'll likely be sidelined for beyond the minimum 10 days, and he could even be at risk of missing the rest of the season. The Reds called up Eric Yang from Triple-A Louisville to replace Wynns on the active roster as the backup to No. 1 catcher Tyler Stephenson.

Outrighted to Louisville
Wynns cleared waivers Thursday and accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Louisville, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Wynns was dropped from the 40-man roster Tuesday following the return of Tyler Stephenson but will remain in the Reds' farm system instead of testing his luck in the open market. The 33-year-old backstop has slashed .250/.309/.410 in 110 plate appearances with the Bats, and he would be the first choice to return to Cincinnati should Stephenson or Luke Maile need to miss any amount of time.

Cut from 40-man roster
The Reds designated Wynns for assignment Tuesday.
Impact
Wynns was up as protection at catcher for a few days while Tyler Stephenson was away but is no longer needed with the latter back in the fold. He cleared waivers and accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Louisville last month and seems likely to do so again.

The reds selected Wynns' contract from Triple-A Louisville on Friday.

Overcomes shoulder injury
Wynns (shoulder) made his season debut Sunday in Triple-A Louisville's 6-4 loss to Indianapolis, going 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Impact
Wynns didn't appear in any Cactus League games after March 12 while tending to a sore shoulder, but the injury didn't keep him from being available for the start of the minor-league season. The 33-year-old is in line to serve as organizational catching depth for the Reds in 2024.
