Catches bullpen session Barnes tested his injured left hand by catching Clayton Kershaw's bullpen session Monday, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Impact Barnes appears to have avoided a significant injury after getting plunked on his left hand in an exhibition game Sunday. In addition to catching the bullpen -- it bears mentioning that the affected hand is Barnes' glove hand -- the backstop was also slated to take batting practice Monday. He is expected to take part in the team's exhibition game against the Angels on Tuesday and should be good to go for Opening Day.

Impact Pederson was referred to the trainer by teammate Austin Barnes, who had previously taken a similar approach to combat back issues. Pederson missed most of spring training with injuries to his hip and side, but he reportedly feels lighter on his feet during summer camp and has already stolen two bases in intrasquad action. That matches the number of stolen bases he accumulated in regular-season action over the last two campaigns combined.

Staying sharp during hiatus Barnes has been able to both hit and catch during the suspension of play, he stated in an interview with John Hartung of Spectrum SportsNet LA on Wednesday.

Impact "I'm able to play catch. I'm able to hit a little bit, find a cage here and there," Barnes explained. The 30-year-old indicated that he "feels good" and is ready to go should a second spring training take place in the weeks ahead. Barnes is slated to back up Will Smith behind the plate this season, though the two may approach something close to a split based on comments made by manager Dave Roberts before play was halted.
