INJURIES

Eyeing weekend return DeScalfani (ankle) played catch Tuesday and could be activated to start during the upcoming weekend series in Atlanta, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact The right-hander exited his start last Wednesday against the Mets with right ankle discomfort, and he later landed on the injured list despite his MRI revealing no structural damage. The club has maintained that he'll be able to make his next start, so all signs point toward him taking the ball when he becomes eligible to come off the IL on Sunday in Atlanta.

Sent to IL The Giants placed DeSclafani on the 10-day injured list Sunday with right ankle inflammation, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Impact San Francisco was initially optimistic that DeSclafani wouldn't miss a turn through the rotation after he exited his most recent start Wednesday with ankle discomfort. After a follow-up MRI revealed nothing concerning, DeSclafani was cleared to played catch Saturday, and he was expected to complete a bullpen session Sunday as a final test of his health. However, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News relays that DeSclafani was only able to play catch and never stepped on the mound Sunday before heading to the dugout after meeting with manager Gabe Kapler and the Giants training staff. The team has yet to provide an update regarding whether DeSclafani suffered a setback, or if he's simply being moved to the IL as a precaution. Either way, the Giants will now require a replacement for DeSclafani in the rotation beginning with Tuesday's game against the Mets.

Expected to make next start DeSclafani (ankle) will play catch Saturday and is expected to make his next start, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact DeSclafani's recent MRI revealed no structural damage, and he'll get a chance to test his ankle while playing catch Saturday. Although manager Gabe Kapler said that the right-hander will be monitored closely in the coming days, he isn't expected to miss his next turn through the rotation. Assuming he's cleared to pitch, DeSclafani tentatively lines up to take the mound on the road against the Mets on Tuesday.

MRI comes back clean DeSclafani (ankle) underwent an MRI that revealed no structural damage, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Impact DeSclafani exited Wednesday's start against the Mets due to right ankle discomfort, and he recently received a cortisone shot to address inflammation. While his examination provided good news, the Giants haven't announced whether the right-hander will be able to make his next turn through the rotation.

Exits with ankle discomfort The Giants announced that DeSclafani exited his start Wednesday against the Mets due to right ankle discomfort, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. He struck out a batter over 1....
Impact The initial diagnosis is a welcome one for DeSclafani, who isn't dealing with any apparent setback related to the right shoulder issue that forced him to miss one turn through the rotation earlier this month. That being said, the extent of his ankle issue isn't known, and DeSclafani could be subject to additional follow-up tests before the Giants have an idea whether he'll be fit to make his next start. He tentatively lines up for a rematch with the Mets at Citi Field next week.

Start cut short by apparent injury DeSclafani was removed from his start Wednesday against the Mets in the second inning due to an apparent physical concern, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports. He st...
Impact Justice delos Santos of MLB.com notes that DeSclafani's final fastball of the afternoon clocked in at 90.7 miles per hour, a dip of about four or five mph from where it sat in the first inning. The sharp drop in velocity likely hints at some kind of arm issue, but the Giants should provide more clarity on that front after the game once tests are conducted. Given that DeSclafani was on the injured list with right shoulder fatigue before being activated ahead of his last start Aug. 13 versus Colorado, it wouldn't be surprising if he experienced a setback Wednesday.

Triumphant in return DeSclafani (11-5) won Friday's 5-4 victory over Colorado, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts in five innings.
Impact Making his first start following a brief IL stint, DeSclafani limited the damage to a single run in both the second and third innings and departed with a 5-2 lead. Closer Jake McGee made things interesting in the ninth by surrendering two runs, but San Francisco was able to eke out the win. The 31-year-old DeSclafani returned to the win column for the first time in over a month.
