Kirilloff leads Twins against the Guardians following 4-hit performance

The Minnesota Twins take on the Cleveland Guardians after Alex Kirilloff had four hits on Wednesday in a 7-3 win over the Brewers

Big day against Brewers Kirilloff went 4-for-4 with a walk, a double, a triple and two runs scored in Wednesday's 7-3 win over Milwaukee.

Impact The 26-year-old has hit safely in all five games to begin the season, but Wednesday was his first multi-hit performance. Kirilloff is 8-for-18 (.444) to kick off the campaign with three of those hits (two doubles and a triple) going for extra bases. He slashed a solid .270/.348/.445 over 88 games in 2023 with 11 homers and 41 RBI, and if he can stay healthy Kirilloff might finally begin to deliver on the talent that made him a first-round pick back in 2016.

Aims for start of spring schedule Kirilloff (shoulder) is on track for live at-bats in February and hopes to be game-ready when the Twins' spring training schedule begins, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Impact Kirilloff underwent surgery in October to repair the labrum in his right shoulder, but the operation wound up being less invasive than initially expected. He began hitting in January and has been ramping things up of late. Kirilloff projects as the starting first baseman assuming he's ready to roll Opening Day, but nothing is assured given his history of health issues.

Avoids arbitration Kirilloff (shoulder) agreed to a one-year, $1.35 million contract with the Twins on Thursday, avoiding arbitration, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Impact Kirilloff had minor offseason shoulder surgery and is expected to be ready for spring training. He should be in line for at least the strong side of a platoon, but Kirilloff has averaged 64 games per season since he debuted in 2021, so durability is the primary concern for the 26-year-old.

Impact Kirilloff, accordingly, required a less invasive procedure than initially anticipated and seems to have a good shot of being fully recovered by the beginning of spring training next February. The 25-year-old battled right (non-throwing) shoulder issues in the second half of the 2023 regular season and was removed from the Twins' postseason roster before Game 4 of the ALDS because of renewed discomfort. When healthy, he put up a .793 OPS with 11 home runs across 319 plate appearances for the American League Central champions.

Set for shoulder surgery Kirilloff will undergo surgery later this month to repair the labrum in his right shoulder, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Impact Kirilloff initially injured his shoulder in July and more recently had to be removed from the Twins' ALDS roster after suffering a setback. It's not clear at this point how long his rehab will take, but it wouldn't be a surprise if he's at least somewhat limited in spring training. It's yet another surgery for Kirilloff, who previously has had two different operations on his wrist.

He began a rehab assignment at Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday and has been dialed in at the dish through his first three games, going 5-for-13 with a home run, a double and two RBI. Kirilloff hasn't experienced a setback with the shoulder, but Baldelli said that he wants the 25-year-old to pick up some more at-bats in the minors in light of his month-long layoff. Kirilloff could be a candidate to return from the IL next weekend, at which point he may settle into the strong side of a platoon at first base with Donovan Solano.
