INJURIES

Two hits in debut Ramirez went 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored, a stolen base and a walk in Monday's win over the Reds.
Impact Ramirez singled in his first career MLB at-bat and came around to score during the second inning. His first extra-base knock was a ground-rule double in the seventh. Ramirez got the start behind the plate and his batterymate, Max Meyer, fired six shutout frames with 14 punchouts. Ramirez is one of the team's top prospects and is already building a strong case for regular playing time.

Officially promoted to majors The Marlins recalled Ramirez from Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday.
Impact One of Miami's top prospects, Ramirez was acquired from the Yankees in the Jazz Chisholm trade last summer. The 23-year-old is now set to make his MLB debut after slashing .254/.313/.479 with three home runs, 12 RBI, 13 runs scored and five stolen bases across 80 plate appearances at the Triple-A level. In a corresponding move, the Marlins placed Rob Brantly (lat) on the 10-day injured list.

Joining big-league roster Ramirez is expected to be called up from Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact Ramirez will make his major-league debut Monday versus the Reds, joining the Marlins roster after batting .258 with three home runs, 12 RBI, 11 runs scored and five stolen bases over 66 at-bats in 18 games at Triple-A. The catcher will likely compete with Liam Hicks for work behind the plate moving forward with Nick Fortes (oblique) currently unavailable with a Grade 1 left oblique strain.

Sent to Triple-A The Marlins optioned Ramirez to Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday.
Impact Ramirez faced an uphill battle to make the Marlins' Opening Day roster, and as expected he'll begin the 2025 regular season in Triple-A. He was acquired by the Marlins from the Yankees in the Jazz Chisholm trade in late July, and with Jacksonville he finished the regular season with a slash line of .270/.368/.364 with four home runs and 20 RBI across 125 plate appearances. Ramirez made a good impression during spring camp, and a strong start in Triple-A could see him jump to the major-league roster at some point during the 2025 campaign.

Goes yard Thursday Ramirez went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against Atlanta.
Impact Liam Hicks got the start at catcher for Miami, but Ramirez's first long ball of the spring still came against a reliever with a good chance of breaking camp on Atlanta's 26-man roster in Angel Perdomo. Ramirez is expected to begin the campaign back at Triple-A Jacksonville, where he slashed .270/.368/.461 in 39 games last season after being acquired from the Yankees in the Jazz Chisholm trade, but Nick Fortes (groin) has been banged up early in camp and offers very little with his bat even when he's healthy. If Ramirez has a quick start to the year in Jacksonville, he should make his big-league debut this summer, and a more serious injury for Fortes could accelerate that timeline even further.
MARCH 7 • ROTOWIRE
Showing tools this spring Ramirez continues to work on his defense in an effort to stick as a catcher when he reaches the major leagues, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact Acquired from the Yankees in last year's Jazz Chisholm trade, Ramirez's bat has never been in question -- Wednesday, he posted an exit velocity of 115.1 mph, the sixth-fastest hit recorded by any player this spring and a mark only topped among 2024 MLB catchers by William Contreras -- but the 23-year-old still has work to do on his pitch framing, blocking and release time on base-stealing attempts. Ramirez showed up early to camp to try and improve in all those areas, however, and his work ethic has been noticed by the Marlins' coaching staff. "We've been hammering all of it," catching coach Joe Singley said this week. "I think he's super talented, and there's a lot of low hanging fruit there. We're getting him in positions where he can let that athleticism go, slightly adjusting some things to help him block the ball and receive it without having to think about it too much. Just clearing up some positions for him to be an athlete." Ramirez is expected to begin the season at Triple-A Jacksonville, but if Nick Fortes' back issues linger into Opening Day, it could open up a spot for the organization's top catching prospect to make his MLB debut.

Chance to claim starting job Ramirez is expected to begin the season with Triple-A Jacksonville, but a strong performance in spring training could force the Marlins' hands, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald re...
Impact The headliner in the Jazz Chisholm deal with the Yankees last year, Ramirez slashed .250/.351/.419 in 68 games between Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Jacksonville at the Triple-A level with nine homers and nine steals, but he performed much better in the Marlins' system after the trade, posting an .829 OPS in 163 plate appearances for Jacksonville compared to a .692 mark for Scranton. Miami will be in no rush to start his service clock, but the team also has very little standing in his way at catcher, with Nick Fortes having failed to reach a .600 OPS in either of the last two seasons. If Ramirez stands out in camp, the Marlins could consider accelerating the timeline for the 23-year-old.

Dealt to Miami The Yankees acquired Ramirez and infielders Jared Serna and Abrahan Ramirez from the Marlins on Saturday in exchange for Jazz Chisholm, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Impact Ramirez is viewed as the headliner of the Marlins' three-player return package. The 22-year-old catcher slashed .224/.328/.364 with four home runs and five stolen bases in 125 plate appearances with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre since getting promoted from Double-A Somerset in June. With Austin Wells, Jose Trevino and Carlos Narvaez ahead of him on the organizational catching depth chart in New York, Ramirez wasn't on track to make his MLB debut in the near future, but the move to Miami could expedite his arrival to the big leagues. Nick Fortes and Ali Sanchez have been sharing catching duties for the Marlins, but both have OPSes under .500 for the season.

Dealt to Miami Ramirez was traded to the Marlins as part of a deal that sent Jazz Chisholm to the Yankees, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Impact Ramirez is viewed as the headliner of the Marlins' return package which includes two other prospects. The 22-year-old slashed .224/.328/.364 with four homers and five stolen bases in 125 plate appearances with the Yankees Triple-A affiliate, but he could quickly see action in the bigs with Miami. Nick Fortes and Ali Sanchez have been handling catching duties for the Marlins but both have logged a sub-.500 OPS.
JULY 27, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Joins 40-man The Yankees selected Ramirez to their 40-man roster Tuesday.
Impact After starting the season in Single-A, Ramirez hit his way up to Double-A Somerset, where his bat cooled down significantly to end the year. The 22-year-old Ramirez is now the sixth catcher on the Yankees' 40-man roster.
