The Marlins got to him for a run in the first, fourth and fifth innings but he was able to punch out a season-high seven hitters and has held the opposing offense to three runs or less in all five starts this season. He'll take a 3.65 ERA into his next start.

Allows two runs Wednesday Houser allowed two earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two across 4.2 innings in the win Wednesday against the Padres. He did not factor in the decision.

Impact Houser was able to limit the Padres to just one run in the third and fourth innings after allowing a leadoff double in both innings. Other than that, he slid past the Padres in 4.2 innings of minimal damage. The 28-year-old has the worst ERA amongst Brewers starters despite having a respectable 3.32 ERA through 19 innings. His next start will come at home Tuesday against the Marlins.

Impact The right-hander gave up a solo shot to Colin Moran in the second inning before allowing two leadoff singles to begin the fifth, and Houser had to watch both runners come around to score after he got the hook. He threw 41 of 73 pitches for strikes, and while his 3.14 ERA through three starts is solid, it isn't backed up by his 1.53 WHIP or 10:7 K:BB through 14.1 innings. Impact The right-hander wasn't overly sharp as he threw only 49 of 81 pitches for strikes, but he was able to limit the Cardinals to one unearned run. Houser has given up two runs on 10 hits with a 7:6 K:BB across 10 innings through two starts this season, and he's projected to pitch against the Pirates next weekend.

Impact The back end of the Milwaukee rotation was unsettled heading into spring training, but Houser, Brett Anderson and Freddy Peralta were able to lock up the final three spots, resulting in Josh Lindblom moving to the bullpen and Eric Lauer and Jordan Zimmermann getting demoted to minor-league camp. Houser may not head into Opening Day with much job security, however, coming off a 2020 campaign in which he saw his strikeout rate plummet steeply and his ERA climb by nearly a run and a half from 2019. He didn't restore much faith over his five starts this spring, giving up 12 runs (11 earned) on 19 hits and five walks over 12 frames.

Impact Houser's struggles were not his fault alone -- the Brewers defense did him few favors -- but he was in line for the loss when he exited. The Brewers' six-run rally in the bottom of the fourth allowed Houser to escape the outing with no damage to his record. The 27-year-old now has a 5.33 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 39 strikeouts in 50.2 innings this season. He's failed to pitch more than five innings in each of his last five starts. Houser's next start is expected to be Wednesday in Cincinnati.

Though it's hard to see in the overall line, there were promising aspects of the effort for Houser, as he generated 15 swinging strikes on 100 total pitches. Even so, it was another disappointing result, as Houser now has a 5.40 ERA with a 37:18 K:BB across 46.2 frames for the season. He's in line to take his next turn through the rotation Friday against Kansas City.
