Victor Bericoto's single and Matt Wilkinson's debut as an opener help Giants beat Guardians 1-0

Earns win in bulk relief Houser (4-7) earned the win against the Guardians on Wednesday, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out three over five scoreless innings.
Impact Houser entered the game in the third inning and kept the Guardians in check for five frames despite throwing 48 of 80 pitches for strikes with only four whiffs. The 33-year-old has now allowed just one earned run over three straight outings of five or more innings, and he owns a 1.61 ERA in seven second-half appearances (one start). He'll take a 4.08 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 73:34 K:BB across 108 frames this season and should pitch early next week against Cincinnati.

Sharp in no-decision Houser didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Astros, allowing two hits and a walk across six scoreless innings. He struck out five.
Impact It was an impressive afternoon for Houser, as the right-hander logged his first quality start since May 17. The right-hander has given up just one run over his last two outings (11 innings), allowing eight hits while striking out nine in that span. Houser, who now sports a 4.28 ERA with a 1.32 WHIP across 103 innings this year, figures to remain in San Francisco's rotation following the departures of Robbie Ray and Tyler Mahle.

Drawing start Wednesday Giants manager Tony Vitello said that Houser will start Wednesday's game against the Astros in San Francisco, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
Impact Houser will essentially be making a second straight turn through the rotation, after he worked behind an opener and picked up a win while throwing five innings of a one-run ball in bulk relief Friday against the Tigers. Trevor McDonald's season-ending elbow injury as well as the recent trades of Robbie Ray and Tyler Mahle should keep a rotation spot available for Houser over the balance of the season if he's able to perform well enough to maintain it. Over 23 appearances (14 starts) with the Giants, Houser owns a 4.55 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 65:31 K:BB across 97 innings.

AUGUST 8 • SI.COM
Earns win in bulk relief Houser (3-7) allowed one run on six hits and a walk while striking out four over five innings to earn the win over the Tigers on Friday.
Impact Houser continues to pitch out of the bullpen, but he has covered five or more innings in three of nine appearances since he was bumped from the rotation. The right-hander put in a strong showing Friday, throwing 57 of 86 pitches for strikes to pick up his first win since May 17 versus the Athletics. Houser has allowed just seven runs over 31 innings across nine innings since his move to the bullpen. Overall, he has a 4.55 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 65:31 K:BB through 97 innings over 23 games (14 starts) this year. The Giants' rotation is depleted after Robbie Ray was dealt to the Padres and Trevor McDonald (elbow) was shut down ahead of UCL reconstruction surgery, so Houser could continue to see regular usage moving forward. He's tentatively projected to make his next appearance at home versus the Astros.

Allows two runs Tuesday Houser allowed two earned runs on five hits, including a home run, and one walk while striking out one in 5.1 relief innings during Tuesday's 8-2 loss to Arizona.
Impact Landen Roupp surrendered six earned runs in just 2.2 innings, opening the door for Houser to cover the rest of the game. The 33-year-old right-hander was moved to the bullpen after drawing his last start June 16. He's made two relief appearances since then, during which he has allowed two earned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out two in 7.2 innings. Overall, he owns a 5.38 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 50:26 K:BB in 73.2 innings this season.

Relegated to bullpen Manager Tony Vitello said Saturday that Houser will pitch out of the bullpen going forward, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Impact Houser will exit the rotation after putting up a 7.00 ERA and 1.83 WHIP over his last five starts and failing to complete the fifth inning in any of them, highlighted by a one-inning performance during his last time on the mound. Tyler Mahle (hamstring) is set to return from the injured list Wednesday to fill the vacant rotation spot; meanwhile, Houser will presumably take on a multi-inning role out of the pen. It's unclear whether he could return to the rotation if his performance improves.

Stuck with sixth loss Houser (2-6) allowed three runs on four hits and a hit batsman while striking out six and walking none over 4.1 innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Nationals.
Impact Houser has failed to complete five innings in each of his last four appearances, giving up 13 runs (12 earned) across 17 innings in that span. He's also posted a 20:5 K:BB during that stretch, which is a noticeable improvement in control despite the otherwise poor performances. Overall, the veteran right-hander has a 5.54 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 46:24 K:BB through 65 innings across 13 starts. He'll be tough to trust in fantasy if he continues to fall short of pitching deep enough to have a chance at wins. His next start is projected to be a tough one on the road versus Atlanta.

JUNE 4 • Associated Press
Up and down in no-decision Houser took a no-decision Thursday against the Brewers, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and three walks in 4.1 innings. He struck out five.
Impact Houser bookended his outing poorly, giving up one earned run in the first and fifth frames before his day ended, but a fifth-inning Willy Adames throwing error at least kept one earned run off the hurler's ledger. The 33-year-old right-hander hasn't been all that effective at missing bats in 2026, fanning fewer than six in all 12 of his starts, and he also remains without a scoreless start. Houser will take a rough 5.49 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 40:24 K:BB over 60.2 innings into his next scheduled appearance against an upstart Nationals lineup.
