Optioned to El Paso The Padres optioned Mazur to Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday.

Impact Mazur had a solid MLB debut against the Angels on June 4, allowing one run in six innings. Things quickly went downhill for him, however, as he posted a 9.36 ERA and 2.04 WHIP across 25 innings over his next six starts. He'll now return to the minors in order to right the ship, though he hasn't found much success at the Triple-A level either (7.11 ERA). Logan Gillaspie was recalled from El Paso in a corresponding move.

Another rough outing Tuesday Mazur (1-3) took the loss Tuesday against the Mariners, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out six over 4.2 innings.

Impact The six strikeouts were a career-best for Mazur over his first seven major league starts, but it was his fourth time giving up four or more runs and he failed to reach five innings for the fifth time. The Mariners strung together a pair of runs against Mazur in the first two innings before opening up the game with homers in the third and fifth to make it a 5-0 ballgame. The 23-year-old now owns a 7.84 ERA, 1.84 WHIP and 21:19 K:BB in 31 innings. It's unclear if his next start will be in the majors or down in Triple-A, but it will come after the All-Star break.

Struggles in no-decision Mazur allowed four runs on seven hits and struck out four without walking a batter over four innings, taking a no-decision versus the Rangers on Wednesday.

Impact While it's a positive that he issued zero walks, Mazur still had too much traffic on the basepaths to deal with. He threw just 46 of 74 pitches for strikes. This was the fourth time in six outings that he's failed to complete five innings. Mazur has a 7.52 ERA, 1.82 WHIP and 15:17 K:BB through 26.1 innings as he continues to struggle during his first stint in the majors. With two off days next week, the Padres could get by with a four-man rotation up to the All-Star break, so it's no guarantee Mazur will stay on the 26-man roster this month.

Impact Mazur will start Tuesday against the Nationals after Yu Darvish (groin) had his return delayed due to right elbow inflammation, per Dennis Lin of The Athletic. Mazur has started in four games for the Padres this season, and he did not factor into the decision in his last start Friday against the Brewers, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks over 4.2 innings.
