Impact Civale missed about three weeks due to right shoulder tendinitis. He threw 46 of 71 pitches for strikes, but it was performance as much as workload that caused his early exit. He's allowed 18 runs over 12 innings across his last three starts in the majors. Civale now has a 4.91 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 41:19 K:BB over 58.2 innings through 12 starts this season. His next start is projected to be on the road in San Francisco, which is about as favorable a matchup as a struggling pitcher can ask for, though Civale's recent performance means he'll still carry some risk.

The veteran right-hander struck out seven over 4.1 perfect innings while spotting 38 of his 56 pitches for strikes. He could be operating with a light restriction with his pitch count Wednesday but should be capable of handling a normal workload in his subsequent starts.

After beginning a throwing progression June 1, the right-hander is now set to take the next step and jump into game action. Should Civale come out of Thursday's outing feeling healthy, a return to the Athletics' rotation for his next start seems likely. Prior to hitting the injured list, he posted a 5-2 record with a 4.20 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 39:17 K:BB across 55.2 innings (11 starts).
