Returns to minors The Brewers optioned Ashby to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

Impact As expected, Ashby will return to the minors after he was designated as the Brewers' 27th man for their doubleheader sweep of the Cubs on Tuesday. Though he started the second game of the twin bill, he acted as more of an opener in the contest, working two scoreless frames before giving way to the bullpen.

Impact Ashby was great in two innings, much different from his MLB debut where he failed to get out of the first inning. However, a 90-minute rain delay stood in the way of him being able to go deeper into Tuesday night's game. The 23-year-old carries a 4.48 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP with a 14.1 K/9 in 62.1 innings with Triple-A Nashville this season. He is likely first in line to receive future spot-starts if the Brewers need an additional starter.

Starting Game 2 of twin bill The Brewers will call up Ashby from Triple-A Nashville to start the second game of their doubleheader with the Cubs, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Impact Ashby's MLB debut came back on June 30 against this same Cubs team, when he recorded only two outs and surrendered seven runs (four earned) on four hits and three walks. Despite putting Milwaukee in a 7-0 hole, Ashby was spared the loss when the Brewers mounted a furious comeback to win by a 15-7 margin. The Brewers are expected to designate Ashby as their 27th man for the twin bill, so he'll presumably head back to Nashville after making the spot start.

The poor outing will still result in Ashby losing his spot on the active roster, as Nashville starter Alec Bettinger was called up in a corresponding move to aid a taxed Milwaukee bullpen that covered the final 8.1 innings of Wednesday's come-from-behind win over the Cubs.

Contract officially selected Ashby's contract was selected by the Brewers on Wednesday.

Impact Ashby will make his major-league debut as the starter in Wednesday's matchup against the Cubs, but the Brewers plan to have a bullpen game in the series finale. The southpaw has served as a reliever recently and hasn't pitched more than two innings in nearly a month. Since moving to the bullpen with the Triple-A club, Ashby has posted an 8.71 ERA and 2.03 WHIP in 10.1 innings.
