T28 at Riviera
Matsuyama carded a three-under 68 on Sunday at The Genesis Invitational to finish six-under and tied for 28th.
Impact
Matsuyama hit only 10 greens in regulation during Sunday's final round at Riviera, but he converted seven of eight scrambling opportunities to salvage a top-30 result. However, he finished the Signature Event ranked just 41st of 51 in SG: Approach and 49th in total feet of putts made, ultimately losing strokes with his irons for the first time since the TOUR Championship last August. He'll likely tee it up next at the Arnold Palmer Invitational where he placed T22-T12 the past two years.

T8 finish at Pebble Beach
Matsuyama closed with a three-under 69 on Sunday to finish in a tie for eighth place at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
Impact
Matsuyama did not show many signs of a hangover after he let last week's WM Phoenix Open get away from him on the last couple holes. He began the week with three straight rounds of 67 before his 69 on Sunday. Matsuyama once again really struggled off the tee where he lost over 1.8 strokes to the field, which ranked 62nd, but he was ninth in SG: Around-the-Green and eighth in SG: Putting. It is good to see Matsuyama feel confident on the greens, but if he can't get it figured out with the driver it is going to be hard to close out golf tournaments. He will have some added confidence going into next week's Genesis Invitational as the defending winner from the last time it was held at Riviera in 2024.

Falls in playoff to Gotterup
Matsuyama was defeated in a playoff by Chris Gotterup on the first extra hole at the WM Phoenix Open on Sunday
Impact
Matsuyama had control of this tournament for much of the week, but he really struggled with his ball striking on Sunday. Despite all that, his short game and putting was incredible and really kept him in it. All he needed to do at 18 was make a par and he would win the WM Phoenix Open for a third time. Unfortunately, his second shot clipped the lip of the bunker and left him scrambling. Matsuyama was unable to get it up-and-down and went to a playoff with Chris Gotterup. Matsuyama once again hit a poor drive on the first extra hole and found the water. He hit a great recovery shot, but it didn't matter after Gotterup poured in a birdie to steal the victory. This will be a tough one for Matsuyama to recover from after being in control for so long. It was the first time in his career on the PGA Tour in which he had the outright lead going into Sunday that he failed to come away with the trophy. That said, this was his first top-10 finish in an official PGA Tour event since his last victory at The Sentry at the beginning of 2025. Matsuyama will be in the field for the first Signature Event of the year next week at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

Adds another top-15 finish
Matsuyama shot a two-under 70 in the final round of the Farmers Insurance Open to finish in a share of 11th place.
Impact
Matsuyama struggled with the driver this week, which was a common theme from 2025. That said, he still ranked 14th in SG: Approach, T4 in GIR's and 15th in scrambling to nearly notch a top-10 finish. This was Matsuyama's sixth career top-20 finish at Torrey Pines. He now has back-to-back top-15s to begin 2026 and is off to a very solid start. Matsuyama will return to the WM Phoenix Open next week where he has won two times before (2016, 2017).

T13 in season debut
Matsuyama finished in a share of 13th place at the Sony Open in Hawaii following a three-under 67 on Sunday.
Impact
This week somewhat summed up what we saw last season from Matsuyama. He ranked top-seven in SG: Approach, SG: Around-the-Green and scrambling, but was just 37th in SG: Off-the-Tee and 64th in SG: Putting. To get back to being one of the best players in the world Matsuyama needs to improve with both the driver and the putter. This T13 was Matsuyama's fifth top-20 in his last seven starts at the Sony Open, but he is still looking for his first top-10 in a PGA Tour event since he won The Sentry last January. That said, the former Masters winner did go T7-T5-Win in his prior three starts on the DP World Tour, Japan Tour and Hero World Challenge, respectively. Matsuyama is skipping The American Express next week.
