Alternate for U.S. Open Cole will be the second alternate from U.S. Open Final Qualifying in Columbus after falling in a 5-for-1 playoff to Cameron Young on Monday. Impact The Columbus final qualifying site featured a number of heavy hitters who had played at the Memorial the day prior. Cole made 11 birdies over the 36 holes on Monday, but also added in six bogeys. It put him in a playoff with Young, Chase Johnson, Max Homa and Rickie Fowler with only one spot up for grabs in the U.S. Open. It was Young who ended the drama quickly with a birdie on the first playoff hole to lock up the final spot from Columbus, but there's a chance Cole still could find his way to Oakmont as an alternate. Cole's game has fallen off a bit this season, but he still has made the cut in nine of his last ten starts. He also has a pair of top-five finishes in 2025 heading into the RBC Canadian Open this week. At 71st in the OWGR, if Cole were to be able to crack the top-60 after Canada, he would also get a spot at Oakmont that way.
