Impact Morikawa withdrew prior to last week's Truist Championship after tying for 62nd at the Cadillac Championship, but he plans to return this week at Aronimink Golf Club. The 2020 PGA Championship winner currently ranks second on Tour in both SG: Tee-to-Green and SG: Approach this season.

Pulls out of Truist field Morikawa has withdrawn from this week's Truist Championship, PGA TOUR Communications reports.

Impact No reason was given for Morikawa's withdraw, but he has been battling a back injury since THE PLAYERS Championship. Even doing so, he did score a T7 at The Masters and a T4 at the RBC Heritage before struggling last week at Doral to a T62. Morikawa probably wants to make sure he is as fresh as he can be heading into the PGA Championship. Andrew Putnam will take his spot in the field at this Signature Event in Charlotte.

Jumps into top-5 at RBC Heritage Morikawa posted a four-under 67 in the final round of the RBC Heritage to finish tied with Harris English and Ludvig Aberg for fourth.

Impact It was a birdie fest over the first three rounds at Harbour Town, but the windy weather picked up Sunday, making it harder for the field to gain ground. Morikawa was one of the exceptions, and while he wasn't in serious contention for a victory, he did enough in the final round to finish in the top-5 for the third time in eight tournaments this season (including his victory at Pebble Beach in mid-February). He ranked second in the field in SG: Approach, T4 in GIR, T8 in driving accuracy and in the top-25 in SG: Off-the-Tee, SG: Around-the-Green, birdies made and scrambling. However, Morikawa lost 2.49 strokes with his putter, which was 65th out of the field of 82 players. He's not in the field for next week's Zurich Classic but will likely tee off the following week at the Cadillac Championship, the newest addition to the PGA Tour's Signature Event schedule.

Battles bad back for T7 result Morikawa (back) closed with a four-under 68 on Sunday to finish in a tie for seventh place at The Masters.

Impact Morikawa was questionable to even play in The Masters after the back injury suffered at THE PLAYERS Championship last month. His ball speed was noticeably down all week and on several occasions he looked to be in discomfort, but he grinded it out and played some very good golf on the weekend. Morikawa now has finished top 20 in six consecutive Masters Tournaments. It feels like one day it will be his time. First things first is getting 100 percent over this injury. Morikawa is listed in the field for the RBC Heritage next week, so we'll see how he holds up playing back-to-back weeks.
