Officially named starter Browne has been named the starter for Purdue's season opener against Ball State, per On3.com.
Impact Browne has been viewed as the frontrunner for the starting gig for the last week or so, so this news doesn't exactly come as a surprise. The 6-foot-4 signal caller previously left the Boilermakers and committed to North Carolina before reversing his decision and returning to West Lafayette in the spring. Browne appeared in eight games for Purdue in 2024, throwing for 532 yards and four touchdowns to two interceptions.

Looking like QB1 frontrunner Browne is looking like the Boilermakers' starting quarterback going into their 2025 season, Sam King of the Lafayette Journal & Courier reports.
Impact Browne and Malachi Singleton have been Purdue's frontrunning quarterbacks for 2025. King said that Browne was expected to be QB1 going into fall camp, and now that statement is looking more likely to come to fruition. There are still two-and-a-half weeks until the 2025 Boilermakers begin their regular season, and it would not be surprising if a public decision at QB1 is announced before they host Ball State on Aug. 30.

Impact Browne came in during the third quarter after senior signal-caller Hudson Card was benched midway through the third quarter. With the Boilermakers already down 35-3, the redshirt sophomore didn't make much of a dent other than a 20-yard touchdown pass to tight end Max Klare in the fourth quarter. Since his massive outing in a start at Illinois in Week 7, Browne hasn't provided much spark when he's taken over for Card in each of the last three games. It will still be worth monitoring if Purdue elects to move him into the starting role ahead of this Friday's game at Michigan State.
