Impact Altmyer found the end zone on a one-yard plunge in the second quarter, but the junior's true highlight of the day came on a 43-yard strike to receiver Pat Bryant in the third quarter, giving the Fighting Illini a three-score lead at the time. Though the 6-foot-2 signal-caller threw a pair of interceptions, he did what he needed to do on a day in which the Illinois ground game dominated the Northwestern defensive front, totaling 215 team rushing yards on over 6 YPC. Altmyer finished the regular season with 2,543 yards and 21 touchdowns to five interceptions while adding 219 yards and four scores on the ground and will have one final opportunity to improve those numbers in the team's upcoming bowl game.

Three total scores in victory Altmyer completed 12 of 26 passes for 249 yards and two touchdowns during Saturday's 38-31 win versus Rutgers. He also had 11 rushes for 74 yards with one touchdown.

Impact Despite completing less than 50 percent of his passes on the day, Altmyer had a statistically productive day, due in large part to his season-best contribution in the running game. The junior quarterback ran for 74 yards on the day, including a 30-yard touchdown scamper in the fourth quarter to give Illinois a 30-24 lead at the time. Altmyer was no slouch through the air either, throwing for 249 yards and a pair of scores, including a 40-yard strike to receiver Pat Bryant to give the Fighting Illini the lead with just four seconds remaining in the game. Altmyer has had a nice season for Illinois this year, throwing for 2,373 yards and 20 touchdowns to just three interceptions while adding 242 yards and three scores on the ground as well. The season finale against Northwestern will serve as his final opportunity to polish those regular season numbers.

Impact Altmyer connected with receivers Pat Bryant and Zakhari Franklin on a pair of fist half touchdown passes of 57 and four yards, respectively, giving the Fighting Illini a 21-9 halftime lead en route to a dominant victory over Michigan State. The junior quarterback has now thrown for 2,124 yards and 18 touchdowns to just three interceptions through 10 games this season, adding 168 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the ground as well. Altmyer's next opportunity will come in a road battle against Rutgers this coming Saturday.

Impact Altmyer's passing stats weren't anything to write home about, though a pair of lost fumbles hurt his day and ended up costing the Fighting Illini a chance to tie the game in the final minutes. The junior quarterback has had a rough couple games, throwing for 467 yards and two touchdowns to two interceptions over the team's last three games. He will be looking for a bounce back performance when the Fighting Illini host Michigan State following this week's bye.

Impact It was a tough day for Altmyer and the Illinois offense, as the junior quarterback threw his second and third interceptions of the season and completed a season-low 49 percent of his passes against the Ducks. Altmyer also failed to find the end zone for just the second time this season as the Fighting Illini were held to just nine points on the day. Even including Saturday's beatdown, Altmyer has had a solid season thus far, throwing for 1,667 yards, 15 touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 63 percent of his passes through eight games. Better days lie ahead for Altmyer and the Illinois offense, starting next week in a home battle against Minnesota.

Despite the sub-par passing numbers, he once again contributed on the ground, running for 48 yards and a third quarter touchdown plunge from the one yard-line to give the Fighting Illini a two-touchdown lead in what would be the final score of the game. Altmyer has been one of the better quarterbacks in the Big Ten this season, throwing for 1,506 yards and 15 touchdowns to just a single interception while adding 138 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the ground and leading the Fighting Illini to a 6-1 start to the season. The top-ranked Oregon Ducks await Altmyer and the Illinois offense this coming Saturday.

Impact Altmyer had himself a day under center, throwing for a season-high 379 yards and throwing at least three touchdowns with no interceptions for the third time this season. What separated this week from past contests was his production on the ground, as the junior quarterback gained a season-high 60 yards including a 13-yard touchdown scamper early in the fourth quarter. Altmyer has been a pleasant surprise for the Fighting Illini as one of the better quarterbacks in the Big Ten through the first six games of the 2024 season, throwing for 1,426 yards and 14 touchdowns to just a single interception. A tough task against a stingy Michigan defense will put Altmyer's skills to the test on Saturday.
