Impact Altmyer found the end zone on a one-yard plunge in the second quarter, but the junior's true highlight of the day came on a 43-yard strike to receiver Pat Bryant in the third quarter, giving the Fighting Illini a three-score lead at the time. Though the 6-foot-2 signal-caller threw a pair of interceptions, he did what he needed to do on a day in which the Illinois ground game dominated the Northwestern defensive front, totaling 215 team rushing yards on over 6 YPC. Altmyer finished the regular season with 2,543 yards and 21 touchdowns to five interceptions while adding 219 yards and four scores on the ground and will have one final opportunity to improve those numbers in the team's upcoming bowl game.

Three total scores in victory Altmyer completed 12 of 26 passes for 249 yards and two touchdowns during Saturday's 38-31 win versus Rutgers. He also had 11 rushes for 74 yards with one touchdown.

Impact Despite completing less than 50 percent of his passes on the day, Altmyer had a statistically productive day, due in large part to his season-best contribution in the running game. The junior quarterback ran for 74 yards on the day, including a 30-yard touchdown scamper in the fourth quarter to give Illinois a 30-24 lead at the time. Altmyer was no slouch through the air either, throwing for 249 yards and a pair of scores, including a 40-yard strike to receiver Pat Bryant to give the Fighting Illini the lead with just four seconds remaining in the game. Altmyer has had a nice season for Illinois this year, throwing for 2,373 yards and 20 touchdowns to just three interceptions while adding 242 yards and three scores on the ground as well. The season finale against Northwestern will serve as his final opportunity to polish those regular season numbers.

Altmyer's next opportunity will come in a road battle against Rutgers this coming Saturday.
