Not promised starting role Slovis (arm) is not guaranteed the starting quarterback spot upon making his return from injury, Mitch Harper of KSL News Salt Lake City reports.

Impact Head coach Kalani Sitake stated that Slovis will "have to earn the right to get that back", in reference to the Cougars' starting quarterback spot when he makes his return from an arm injury. The senior quarterback has thrown for 1,716 yards (152-of-265), 12 touchdowns and six interceptions across eight appearances this season. Slovis will compete to earn his starting spot back with Jake Retzlaff, who made his first career start against West Virginia in Week 10.

Impact Slovis is not healthy enough to start Saturday's game, but it's a somewhat good sign that he's healthy enough to dress and play if absolutely necessary. He has started every game this season for the Cougars, accounting for 15 total touchdowns and six interceptions. Jake Retzlaff will get the nod at quarterback for BYU Saturday.

Impact Slovis also had a fumble for three total turnovers as the Cougars struggled mightily against Texas. In five conference games, Slovis has seven total turnovers which is a big reason they have gone 2-3 in those games. BYU will play at West Virginia next week.
