Named starting QB against Lamar McCloud will be Texas State's starting quarterback against Lamar, Keff Ciardello of The Austin American-Statesman reports.

Impact The first words of Ciardello's post, no surprise, should encapsulate Texas State's head coach G.J. Kinne selecting McCloud as his starting quarterback. He helped prevent a significant problem for the Bobcats after they lost TJ Finley to Western Kentucky. McCloud has proven himself capable of being an excellent QB. While enrolled at James Madison during 2023, he logged career bests in just about every category, his most notable arguably the 43 touchdowns.

Signs with Texas State McCloud has signed with Texas State, according to the team's announcement Tuesday.

Impact By signing McCloud, Texas State has acquired the reigning Sun Belt Player of the Year. He finished 2023 having completed 68.2 percent of 4123 passes for 3,657 yards and a 35:10 TD:INT ratio. McCloud also logged 96 carries for 276 yards and eight touchdowns, establishing himself as a dual threat for James Madison that year. He is now Texas State's top option at quarterback, a position the Bobcats finally seem to have settled after the offseason departure of TJ Finley and de-commitment from Jayden de Laura.
