Impact Berger recorded season lows in both touches and total yards, as the Spartans' running backs corps netted just 30 rushing yards across 13 combined carries against the Buckeyes. The transfer back has now rushed fewer than 10 times for the third game in a row. Berger and the Michigan State offensive line have been completely ineffective so far during Big Ten play, leaving his status as the team's top running back unclear.

Totals 53 yards Berger rushed nine times for 34 yards to go along with three receptions (four targets) for 19 yards during Saturday's 27-13 loss against Maryland.

Impact Berger led the Spartans' running back corps in carries, though he failed to record the team's lone rushing score in Week 4. Instead, senior back Elijah Collins (five carries, 36 yards) notched his third touchdown of the season with a 12-yard scoring plunge in the first quarter. Berger's per-game rushing production has plummeted since the first two weeks of the season (16.5 carries, 113.5 yards), tallying just 27 rushes for 74 yards over the last three games.

Stonewalled in loss Berger totaled 13 yards on four carries and added three receptions (three targets) for 15 yards during Saturday's 34-7 loss to Minnesota.

Impact Berger failed to make much of anything happen as the Spartans' entire offense finished with a season-low 240 total yards Saturday. The 6-foot-1 transfer did manage to play a factor in the passing game (5.0 yards per target) to help make up for his team's overall lackluster rushing performance. Michigan State's offensive line should have an easier time opening up holes in the running game against Maryland next week.

Bottled up in loss Berger netted 27 rushing yards across his 13 carries while catching three of his four targets for 38 yards during Saturday's 39-28 loss to Washington.

Impact Berger's hot start to the season was extinguished versus the Huskies defense, as he averaged just over two yards across his 13 carries Saturday after rushing for over 100 yards in each of the first two weeks of the 2022 campaign. However, the Wisconsin transfer did make his biggest receiving impact of the season, reeling in all but one of his targets as quarterback Payton Thorne was forced to drop back while trailing throughout much of this loss. Berger still far and away outpaced the rest of the Spartans' running back corps in overall usage (13 of 19 total rushes), as fellow transfer Jarek Broussard only managed three rushing yards across four touches against Washington. Michigan State may look to utilize Berger more as both a rusher and pass catcher this coming Saturday against Minnesota.
