Utah QB Cam Rising out for the season, true freshman Isaac Wilson named starter

Utah quarterback Cam Rising is out for the season with a lower leg injury and coach Kyle Whittingham says true freshman Isaac Wilson will be the Utes’ starter until further notice

Will be starting quarterback Wilson will be Utah's starting quarterback until further notice, Josh Furlong of KSL News Salt Lake City reports.
Impact Cameron Rising (leg) is out indefinitely, resulting in Wilson being Utah's starting quarterback again. The successor has completed 55.7 percent of 122 passes for 830 yards and a 6:7 TD:INT ratio, all stats he will look to clean up.

Will resume role as backup Wilson will resume his role as the backup to quarterback Cameron Rising now that the latter is set to return to the field, national college football writer Brett McMurphy reports.
Impact Wilson started three games for Utah in Rising's absence, and had an up-and-down performance. He tossed for 726 yards, five touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 55.9 percent of his passes. Still, there was a lot to like from the quarterback especially considering he's just a true freshman. Wilson should remain Rising's backup moving forward at least for the rest of this season.

Struggles against Arizona Wilson was 20-for-40 passing for 280 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions during Saturday's 23-10 defeat to Arizona. He also had 10 rushes for negative nine yards.
Impact Wilson had no answers for the Arizona defense as he threw two interceptions in a single outing for the third time this season. Utah had previously been able to shrug off their inexperienced quarterback's mistakes, but not in this one as the team took their first loss of the year. The true freshman has been elevated into a tough spot as Cameron Rising remains out with a hand injury. Utah will have an extra week to determine what they will do when they play at Arizona State in Week 7.

Impact Wilson received his second consecutive start as Cam Rising is working his way back from a hand injury. Rising was seen in warm-ups, but did not play against the Cowboys. Wilson showed off some impressive wheels with 41 rushing yards and is getting better with more experience. This will be valuable down the road when Wilson becomes Utah's future starter. It appears that Rising is set to return and that could be as soon as next week's game against Arizona.

Forced into action against Baylor Wilson completed 4 of 9 passes for 30 yards during Saturday's 23-12 win versus Baylor.
Impact For the second week in a row, Wilson played the entire second half for the Utes. This time it came about due to an injury as Cameron Rising left in the second quarter with a hand ailment. Rising's injury isn't considered serious, so it's possible Wilson goes back to the bench next week. If Rising can't go, the true freshman will get his first career start at Utah State. Wilson has struggled in limited reps with a 55.0 completion percentage and two interceptions compared to just one touchdown.
