Leading Bronco rusher Holani ran for 75 yards on 16 carries Friday as Boise State was defeated by UTEP 27-10.

Impact Holani is averaging 73 rushing yards on the season, so his 75-yard performance against UTEP wasn't disappointing, but it certainly wasn't enough to secure the Broncos a win either. Holani had 67 more yards than the second-leading rusher, Hank Bachmeier, and was unable to hold down the rushing offense all on his own.

Impact Holani was a star rusher and receiver for the Broncos on Saturday, leading the team with 110 rushing yards and being one away from the leading receiver with 47 yards. Coach Andy Avalos wanted to get Holani the ball as much as possible, and this was certainly accomplished. He is one of their best players and his contributions will be needed Friday as Boise State takes on UTEP.

Impact This was Holani's first action of the season after missing the opener. He wasn't needed much but made his presence known with an early touchdown. Boise State has yet to find traction in the ground game this season, Holani or not, as the Broncos averaged just 3.3 YPC against UTEP.

Impact It should be noted Holani was also on the field for warmups prior to last week's opener against UCF before ultimately getting ruled out. Still, it's a positive sign to go along with previous reports that he is expected to play Friday.

Impact Holani was a late scratch ahead of the season opener against UCF but it appears the redshirt sophomore is planning to make a return to the field Friday night. The Broncos carried the ball 26 times and managed just 20 total yards on the ground last week. They were dead last in the Mountain West in rushing in 2020 after Holani played in just three games. He'll provide a major boost to their rushing attack if he's able to give it a go.

Impact It's unclear what's forcing Holani out of action to open up 2021 but the team did confirm that they didn't have anyone out due to COVID-19. Holani was seen on the field going through warmups and was on the depth chart as the team's starting running back so something must've occurred last minute. A further update will likely be provided after Thursday's game. Cyrus Habibi-Likio is now in line to start the opener in his first game as a Bronco after transferring out of Oregon this offseason.
