Out for remainder of season Harrell (leg) is out for the remainder of UNC Charlotte's 2025 season, Hunter Bailey of The Charlotte Observer reports.

Impact Harrell suffered a leg injury in Week 4, four games into UNC Charlotte's 2025 season. Because the redshirt junior has played fewer than five games this season, perhaps he can apply for a medical redshirt that can help him maintain his current year of collegiate eligibility. On the statistical side, Harrell completed two-thirds of 96 pass attempts for 737 yards and a 4-2 TD-INT ratio. He also logged two rushing touchdowns, finishing 2025 with a career-high six TDs.

Impact After what was the best performance of his career last week against Monmouth, Harrell had to be helped off the field with a leg injury in the second quarter. The severity of the injury is still unknown as he is getting an MRI, and Grayson Loftis will take his place at quarterback until he is healthy.

Impact Harrell didn't have a great showing in his first game as a 49er, earning a starting role for the first time in his collegiate career. He is known for his dual-threat ability and will look to provide more value on the ground next weekend against his former team in North Carolina.

Impact All signs seem to point to Harrell as the favorite to start for the 49ers. He spent the previous two years at North Carolina, where he was limited member of the offense, appearing in just 10 total games and tossing for four touchdowns, three interceptions and 552 yards. Still, he seems to have found a program where he can start from Week 1.

Impact Harrell will join the 49ers this offseason after spending the last two seasons with North Carolina. The 6-foot-2 sophomore quarterback threw for 552 yards (43-of-70), four touchdowns and three interceptions during his time with the Tarheels, adding on 38 carries for 130 yards and two scores on the ground.

Impact Harrell was benched in UNC's blowout win over North Carolina Central, but not because the Tar Heels were up big. He got off to a sluggish start, completing 2 of 6 passes for 22 yards through two drives. That led head coach Mack Brown to turn to Criswell, and he immediately out-performed Harrell. Now, he's been relegated to QB2 duties for the foreseeable future.
