Noah Short - 61 yards rushing in win
Short posted 10 rushes for 61 yards and caught two of three targets for 15 yards during Saturday's 24-21 victory against Kansas State.
Impact
After over 100 all-purpose yards in the season opener, Short posted another quality performance Saturday. The senior didn't play as much of a role in the passing game, but had a better game on the ground, leading the team in yards and carries outside of quarterback Cale Hellums.

Cale Hellums - Three total touchdowns in upset win
Hellums completed seven of 11 passes for 43 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 24-21 win over Kansas State. He also had 41 rushes for 124 yards with two touchdowns.
Impact
Hellums made use of his opportunity this week, with week 1 starter Dewayne Coleman not playing due to injury. The junior led the Black Knights to an upset win, recording his first 100-yard performance of his career. Army now knows they have a quality option in Hellums if Coleman is out for extended time.

Liam Fortner - Good to go Saturday
Fortner (undisclosed) is available to play Saturday against Kansas State, according to Black Knight Nation.
Impact
Fortner will start at wideout and should have a sizable workload as one of the go-to options for quarterback Cale Hellums, who will get the nod under center over a banged-up Dewayne Coleman. Fortner didn't play in the Week 1 loss to Tarleton State.

Cale Hellums - Will start under center Saturday
Hellums will start at quarterback for Army in Saturday's game against Kansas State, Wyatt Wheeler of USA TODAY Sports reports.
Impact
Hellums will get the nod under center since Army's starting signal-caller, Dewayne Coleman, got banged up twice last week versus Tarleton State. Coleman could still make an appearance if needed, but Hellums will get the nod and start in this one.

Dewayne Coleman - Not starting but available
Coleman (undisclosed) isn't starting for Army but figures to be available should the Black Knights need him, per Wyatt D. Wheeler of USA Today.
Impact
Coleman was seen dressed and warming up, and indeed, the star quarterback will be available for the Black Knights. However, he won't get the start -- that honor will go to his backup Cael Hellums. This is a big loss for Army, but Coleman's injury doesn't seem all that serious if he's indeed available in an emergency capacity.

Dewayne Coleman - On field for warm-ups
Coleman (undisclosed) is on the field for Army's warm-ups ahead of the Week 2 clash with Kansas State, per Army Football sideline reporter Tony Morino.
Impact
Coleman was expected to play, so it's unsurprising to see him suited up on the field ahead of the Black Knights' clash with Kansas State. Coleman racked up 229 total yards and a score in the opening loss to Tarleton State.

Liam Fortner - Remains questionable
Fortner (undisclosed) is questionable for Saturday's game at Kansas State, Ken McMillan of the Times Herald-Record reports.
Impact
Fortner did not play during Week 1, when Tarleton State upset the Army, so they will want their most proven wideout available. During both 2023 and 2024, he logged at least one reception.

Dewayne Coleman - Expected to play vs. K-State
Coleman (undisclosed) is expected to play in Week 2 versus Kansas State, per Wyatt D. Wheeler of The Topeka Capital-Journal.
Impact
Coleman left Army's upset loss to Tarleton State with an injury and didn't return. However, he's expected to be able to suit up Saturday night against Kansas State. "He obviously had to come out of the game, and we're treating it," Black Knights head coach Jeff Monken said. "I anticipate that's he's going to be able to play. He's a tough guy, so I imagine he'll be ready to go for the game." Coleman passed for 129 yards and two interceptions and ran for 100 yards and a score on 24 carries.
