Neoklis Avdalas - Available at Wake
Avdalas (undisclosed) is available for Saturday's game at Wake Forest, according to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.
Impact
Previously probable, Avdalas' injury tag was a precautionary measure going into Virginia Tech's first game of the 2026 calendar year. During the 2025 part of VT's ongoing season, he logged 14.8 points and 2.0 three-pointers made per game. Without a good chunk of the Hokies' players available during their 2025 finale against Virginia, a matchup that went into triple overtime, Avdalas scored 17 (three three-pointers made) and recorded eight rebounds.

Neoklis Avdalas - Probable at Wake Forest
Avdalas (undisclosed) is probable for Saturday's game at Wake Forest.
Impact
Avdalas missed the Hokies' matchup against Elon on Dec. 20 with an illness, but he was able to return to the court in the team's most recent game versus Virginia. The freshman point guard should be good to go at Wake Forest, but it's unknown if it's the same illness keeping him on the injury report. His true status will be determined prior to tip-off, but it's currently trending in the right direction.

Amani Hansberry - Fills stat sheet admirably
Hansberry registered 17 points (5-16 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 5-10 FT), 15 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals in 51 minutes during Wednesday's 95-85 3OT victory over Virginia.
Impact
Hansberry didn't have his best shooting performance, as he needed 16 shots to score 17 points, but the big man still found a way to make a huge impact on both ends of the court. He racked up at least two tallies in each of the five major categories and is now averaging 17.3 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 2.2 steals and 1.0 blocks per game since the beginning of December.

Christian Gurdak - Monster performance Wednesday
Gurdak had 17 points (7-10 FG, 3-7 FT), 19 rebounds and one assist over 46 minutes during Wednesday's 95-85 3OT win over Virginia.
Impact
Gurdak was outstanding as a scorer, but he also did a good job of crashing the glass This resulted in him posting a career-best mark in rebounds while also matching his best output of the campaign in points. Gurdak seems to be trending in the right direction after scoring in double digits in his last three appearances, so it doesn't seem as if he'll be leaving the starting lineup any time soon.

Tobi Lawal - Won't face Virginia
Lawal (ankle) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against Virginia.
Impact
Virginia Tech will once again be without its star forward, as Lawal will miss an eighth consecutive game. Dorn (back) has been designated as questionable ahead of Wednesday's game against Virginia.
Impact
Dorn, who sat out against Elon on Dec. 20, will remain out against the Cavaliers. The 7-foot freshman from Germany has appeared in 10 games to start the 2025-26 season, averaging 3.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.6 assists on 12.4 minutes per game.

Tobi Lawal - Game-time decision Wednesday
Lawal (ankle) is a game-time decision for Wednesday's game against Virginia, according to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.
Impact
For the senior Lawal's 2025-26 season, Saturday will include either his seventh game or eighth DNP. Without him, Virginia Tech's team has not stuck to a single formula, opting to go smaller or bigger depending on the game. In the seven games he did not play, VT's starting lineup added either guard Ben Hammond or center Antonio Dorn, moving other starters up or down a position. Dorn and at least two others are also dealing with injuries though, so having Lawal would make beginning the Hokies' conference schedule a whole lot smoother.

Neoklis Avdalas - Available vs. Virginia
Avdalas (illness) is available for Wednesday's game against Virginia, according to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.
Impact
Just before Virginia Tech returned to conference action, a physical illness briefly took Avdalas out of action, but it was only one game. The freshman, a projected first-round selection of the 2026 NBA Draft, has backed up his stock with 14.6 points, 5.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.9 three-pointers made on 44.4/37.1/68.1 shooting splits across 12 starts. Avdalas' return comes at a crucial time, with the Hokies not only returning to conference action but also considering their injury list spans at least several players, meaning he may have to shoulder a lot more work against Virginia.

Tobi Lawal - Inactive streak set to extend
Lawal (ankle) is unlikely to play in this upcoming Wednesday's game against Virginia, Thomas Hughes of SI.com reports.
Impact
Lawal has missed the last seven games for the Hokies, and he's now likely to be out for eight as they take on Virginia at home. If the senior forward goes through with the inactive status, his next chance to play will be at Wake Forest on Jan. 3. He's averaging 12.8 points, 10.3 rebounds and 1.7 blocks in 30.2 minutes across six games this season.

Christian Gurdak - Efficient against Elon
Gurdak racked up 17 points (6-8 FG, 5-7 FT), six rebounds and one block over 28 minutes during Saturday's 82-81 OT win over Elon.
Impact
Gurdak made the most of his first start, as he set a new season-high mark in points while also grabbing six boards. He's scored in double digits in back-to-back games while logging at least 26 minutes each time, so he seems ticketed for a bigger role in the rotation in the coming weeks.
