Impact Wertz is dealing with a sprained right ankle and Notre Dame will keep him on the sidelines as non-conference play comes to a close Wednesday. The guard will have six days to rest and rehab before the Irish return to action against Pittsburgh on the road.

Impact Wertz was one of four Notre Dame players that scored in double digits in this upset win, but those performances have not been consistent with him. In fact, he has scored more than 10 points just once all season long and is averaging a mere 5.8 points per game -- a downgrade compared to the 8.4 points per tilt he averaged in the 2020-21 season.

Impact The level of competition should be taken into account here, but Wertz appeared to be in mid-season form -- especially from distance -- after battling an ankle injury for much of preseason practice. He also chipped in an assist, a steal and a block for one of the most complete stat lines of any Notre Dame player. He may not crack the starting five, with Prentiss Hubb, Cormac Ryan and Dane Goodwin all returning, but Wertz could easily be considered a Sixth Man of the Year candidate in the ACC due to his ability to score in bunches.

Impact Wertz was Notre Dame's best scoring threat, but he disappeared in the second half since he scored just six of his 17 points after the break. This was Wertz's second double-digit scoring game since the beginning of the calendar year, however, and he needs to score with more consistency if he wants to be a reliable offensive threat in the final weeks of the regular sesaon.
