San Diego downs Weber State 83-66 in coach Scholl's debut

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Isaiah Pineiro scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and San Diego rallied in the second half to beat Weber State 83-66 in coach Sam Scholl's debut in Tuesday night's season opener.

Trailing 32-25 at halftime, Olin Carter III's 3-pointer sparked a 13-3 run capped by Alex Floresca's jumper for a 44-39 Toreros lead with 14:12 left and San Diego led by as many as 18 the rest of the way after shooting 65 percent from the field in the half.

Isaiah Wright and Carter scored 13 points apiece with Wright dishing eight assists. Yauhen Massalski scored eight points and grabbed 10 rebounds for San Diego, which shot 49 percent overall to Weber State's 44 percent.

Scholl was named San Diego's acting head coach for the final four games of the 2017-18 season before getting the job on Easter Sunday.
