Impact Whaley hasn't appeared in a game since Nov. 9 for UNLB, and it doesn't sound like he's on the cusp of a return at this point, either. While nothing is set in stone, it sounds as though Whaley could be leaning toward sitting out the remainder of the campaign and utilizing a redshirt for 2024-25.

Impact Grimala's report mentioned that Whaley's been dealing with a nagging back injury since preseason. He's played 23 minutes total in the first two games and now will be forced to sit. For now, he should be evaluated on a game-to-game basis until the team gives further clarity on a return.

Impact Whaley was somewhat limited with 14 minutes, but his seven points on three shots were highly efficient. He'll look to return in a bigger capacity against Memphis come Saturday.

Impact UNLV's 2024-25 team logged its first practice together Monday, and Whaley was not a participant then. Not much has been publicized about the injury other than that it concerns his back. At the very least, Whaley has over a month to recover before the 2024-25 Rebels begin their regular season.

Impact The expectation is that Whaley receives an X-ray for his injured ankle sometime Sunday. Whaley's absence would be a significant blow to UNLV, already dealing with a season-ending injury to Jalen Hill (knee) and a team that recently benefited from Whaley's promotion to starter. Excluding the game Whaley got injured in, he is averaging 11.9 points and 4.9 rebounds as a starter.
