Impact Johnson did not participate in a mid-October scrimmage, and the thought at the time was that he was still dealing with lingering effects of a toe injury suffered last season. Wednesday's report suggests there is a lot more going on, most notably a hip strain. Johnson was merely a depth forward for the Tar Heels last season that averaged 4.1 mpg across 14 appearances, and growing into a rotation piece will likely hinge on getting healthy first.

Impact Bacot already appears to be in mid-season form, as he tied Caleb Love for the game-high in scoring and doubled the second-closest Tar Hell in rebounding. The preseason all-ACC first-team forward gains some help in the frontcourt this season via the transfer market, as Brady Manek (Oklahoma) and Dawson Garcia (Marquette) will both be available, though primarily at the four. That doesn't project to drain Bacot's stock, however, as the pro prospect remains one of the best fantasy assets in the ACC.

Impact According to team officials, Johnson continues to deal with lingering effects from the sprained toe that caused him to miss the last 15 games of the 2020-21 season. Johnson had already likely been on the outside looking in with respect to a rotation spot, as he failed to reach double-digit minutes even when he was healthy and went scoreless in his last four appearances. The Tar Heels are also returning most key players from their backcourt, with Caleb Love, R.J. Davis and Kerwin Walton back in the mix. Add in four-star point guard D'Marco Dunn, and Johnson was already going to have to claw his way into minutes. His next chance to take the court is an exhibition matchup against Elizabeth City State on Nov. 5.
