Fills in admirably
Heise finished with 18 points (5-12 FG, 1-7 3Pt, 7-9 FT), five rebounds and one steal in 34 minutes during Friday's 76-62 loss to Tennessee.
Impact
Heise was the main benefactor when Joshua Jefferson went down with an ankle injury two minutes into Iowa State's first round matchup with Tennessee State. After having reached double figures in scoring just four times all season prior to the tournament, Heise reached that benchmark in all three games, starting the final two while averaging 17.3 points, 3.7 boards and 2.0 assists in his increased role, including a season-high 22 points off the bench during that first-round win over the Tigers.

Added to starting lineup
Heise is part of the Cyclones' starting lineup for their upcoming game Sunday with Kentucky, according to Eugene Rapay of The Journal News.
Impact
Normally, Heise is not part of the Cyclones' starting lineup, but they require a replacement because Joshua Jefferson (ankle) is out for the 2026 NCAA tournament Round of 32. In place of him will be Heise, their most experienced backup potentially logging his last game as a student-athlete. Across his 35 games (three starts) this season, Heise has averaged 5.2 points and 4.0 rebounds in 24.4 minutes, good enough for a sixth-man role and backing up the possibility that he may log many minutes against Kentucky.

Busts out with 22 points off bench
Heise finished with 22 points (8-13 FG, 4-5 3Pt, 2-4 FT), four rebounds, three assists and one steal over 27 minutes during Friday's 108-74 victory over Tennessee State.
Impact
Heise came off the bench and drained 4-of-5 from beyond the arc en route to a season-high 22 points during Iowa State's rout in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The sixth-year senior wing stepped up offensively thanks in part to the loss of star forward Joshua Jefferson to a lower body injury along with Tamin Lipsey who was riddled with foul trouble throughout. Heise has proven to be a capable scorer in the past, averaging as many as 13.5 points two seasons ago while at Northern Iowa and shooting 40.9-percent from beyond the arc last season with Iowa State, though he had averaged just 4.7 points and 30.7-percent from deep prior to Thursday's breakout performance.

Clutch three spurs signature win
Heise chipped in 11 points (4-6 FG, 3-3 3Pt), six rebounds, one assist and one steal over 27 minutes during Monday's 70-67 win over Houston.
Impact
Heise helped spark Iowa State's second-consecutive win over a top-10 foe by draining all three of his attempts from long range, with none bigger than his go-ahead three with 1:17 remaining that gave the Cyclones the lead for good. The senior reserve, whose gritty performance included six boards, an assist and a steal, reached double figures in the scoring column for just the fourth time this season and the third time through 13 conference games. For the season, Heise is shooting just 31.8-percent from beyond the arc, though he has lifted that average to 37.1-percent against Big 12 competition after connecting on 40.9-percent last season.

Rare production off bench
Heise contributed 11 points (4-6 FG, 3-5 3Pt), five rebounds and five assists in 23 minutes during Sunday's 95-61 win over Kansas State.
Impact
Heise connected on three triples to reach double figures in scoring for just the third time this season as the Cyclones rolled. The senior reserve also dished out five assists and added five boards, the fourth-consecutive game he's reached that total. While statistically Heise has had a comparable season to last, his efficiency has dropped considerably as he's shooting 43.3-percent from the field and 28.3-percent from three after reaching rates of 53.1 and 40.9 last season.

Drops out of starting unit
Heise will not start Saturday's game versus Purdue, Bill Seals of On3.com reports.
Impact
Heise started the last trio of contests with Tamin Lipsey sidelined, but he'll return to his bench role Saturday with Lipsey set to return and retake his spot in the starting unit. Heise only played 21 minutes last time out and will likely log similar minutes off the bench moving forward.

Dishes six assists in first start
Heise racked up eight points (2-3 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 3-4 FT), five rebounds, six assists, one block and three steals across 39 minutes during Tuesday's 78-60 win over Creighton.
Impact
Heise made his first start of the season with leading scorer Tamin Lipsey sidelined by a groin injury, and the end result was a solid all-around stat line and the Cyclones maintaining their undefeated record. Lipsey is considered day-to-day, so Heise may get another opportunity for extended run when Iowa State faces off against Syracuse in the Players Era Festival on Wednesday.

Leading scorer in final exhibition
Heise led the Cyclones with 19 points (7-10 FG, 5-7 3Pt) to go along with two assists and two steals across 32 minutes in Sunday's 80-72 exhibition victory over Northwestern.
Impact
Heise is entering his sixth collegiate season and has already appeared in 126 career games (35 with Iowa State), so he brings a wealth of experience to an already-strong ISU roster. He wasn't a starter for Iowa State for most of the 2024-25 season, but that changed down the stretch, and he ended up producing double-digit scoring five times in the last 10 games of the season. Already an incredibly efficient three-point shooter (40.9 percent in 2024-25), Heise will resume his sharpshooter role this season, seemingly in a starting capacity. However, it's worth noting the Cyclones have been playing without projected leading scorer Tamin Lipsey (knee) in exhibition play, and considering he has a good chance to be available for the Nov. 3 opener, Lipsey will likely take away touches and usage from Heise and the rest of the Iowa State backcourt once meaningful games commence.
