Impact Garza piled up preseason awards heading into his senior year, and his season got off on the right foot as he led the Hawkeyes in scoring, rebounds and blocks. Unanimous All-American Garza was a unanimous selection to the 2020-21 Associated Press All-American team that was announced Wednesday.

Impact The preseason accolades continue to roll in for Garza, who was already a unanimous selection to the Preseason All-Big Ten team, as well as being named the preseason conference player of the year. The AP predicts plenty of team success for the Hawkeyes as well, rating Iowa as the top projected Big Ten team in the first preseason poll, with the Hawkeyes checking in at No. 5 overall. The offense will run through Garza in the post as he looks to improve upon incredible 2019-20 numbers of 23.9 ppg and 9.8 rpg. Iowa is projected to open up its season Nov. 25 against North Carolina Central.

Named Preseason B1G POY Garza was selected as the 2020-21 Preseason Big Ten Player of the Year on Sunday by a panel of Big Ten media members.

Impact No surprises here, as Garza is the reigning conference player of the year who elected to return for his senior season despite testing the NBA Draft waters. Garza was the leading scorer in the Big Ten at 23.9 points per game, a mark that was good for sixth in the entire country. The double-double machine also tallied 9.8 rebounds per contest, plus assisted with other fantasy categories such as blocks (1.8) and three-pointers made (1.3). The key supporting players at Iowa will be largely similar as well, though the team loses some post depth in Ryan Kriener (graduation) and Cordell Pemsl (transfer), leaving even more opportunities for the 6-11 center. There's arguably even an improvement at point guard on the way, with Jordan Bohannon set to return from a hip injury. Garza has never entered a season with these types of expectations before, but he'll be one of the safest bets to take off the board at No. 1 in upcoming fantasy drafts.
