Booms for 16 points
Butler chipped in 16 points (5-6 FG, 3-3 3Pt, 3-3 FT), one assist and one steal over 29 minutes during Saturday's 53-52 loss to Boise State.
Impact
Butler matched his season-high 16 points, scoring subtly and efficiently in a high-stakes Mountain West Championship loss. Saturday's performance marked Butler's seventh game with double-digit scoring this season. The sophomore is averaging 7.5 points on 39.0 percent shooting across 26 appearances.

Practicing with brace
Butler (wrist) has been medically cleared and practiced Wednesday with a brace on his left wrist, Mark Zeigler of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Impact
Butler missed the last four games due to a wrist injury but is making progress in his recovery. The team hasn't indicated whether he'll be available for Saturday's game against UNLV, but if he's available, he could see increased playing time since Trey Pulliam (illness) has been ruled out.

Chance to return Dec. 28
Butler (wrist) could play in the San Diego Christian game on Dec. 28 but a Jan. 1 return against UNLV appears more likely according to coach Brian Dutcher, Jon Schaeffer of XTRA136...
Impact
Butler suffered a broken wrist at the beginning of December. He underwent another X-ray this week and he is making solid progress. The team should have a better idea next week depending on what he is able to do in practice if he will be able to return.

X-rays determine broken wrist
Butler suffered a broken wrist in Tuesday's 72-47 victory over Long Beach State, Mark Zeigler of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Impact
The injury expects to leave the Aztecs without their primary point guard for roughly a month, though the timing is a bit fortunate with fewer games on the schedule due to the holidays and end-of-semester exams. Helping his case is the fact that he isn't expected to require surgery. Butler had been factoring in as more of a scorer in his second season with the program, increasing his shooting percentages across the board while posting 9.7 ppg. That scoring will now presumably fall in the hands of Keith Dinwiddie and Adam Seiko, while Trey Pulliam will likely take on more ball-handling reps.
