Impact Wednesday marked Gilbert's third game with double-digit points and rebounds this season with the 13 rebounds representing a career-high for the 6'4" junior guard. Backcourt-mate Tamin Lipsey returned from a one-game absence but while he struggled, Gilbert excelled on both ends, adding three steals to go along with his impressive offensive output. Gilbert had seen his shot production drop over the first three conference games to just 6.7 per game, but over the last three, he's averaged 13 shots from the floor, shooting 18-for-39 (46.2%). During this most recent stretch, Gilbert has averaged 17.0 points per game, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.7 steals in 34.0 minutes of action per contest.

Lipsey left Tuesday's game late with a shoulder injury and while early indications are that it's not serious, Gilbert may be asked to step up even more if Lipsey does happen to miss any action.

Rarely does a transfer from a mid-major to power conference go this well, as Gilbert is now on pace for career highs in scoring (14.4 ppg), assists (4.9 apg) and rebounds (4.7 rpg), in addition to shooting percentage (47.2). The only concern here is that the Cyclones have played one of the weaker non-conference schedules and came up empty in arguably their two toughest tests against Virginia Tech and Texas A&M. They'll see much more difficult opponents each night when Big 12 play begins, which for Iowa State lands Saturday at Oklahoma.
