Scores 18, grabs five boards Combs totaled a season-high 18 points (7-14 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 2-5 FT), five rebounds and three assists in 43 minutes during Sunday's 84-75 OT loss to Nebraska.

Impact Combs and Cooper Koch scored 18 apiece to make up for Bennett Stirtz's off-game of 11 points. The 6-4 junior scored in double digits for the first time since Jan. 14. Combs started the last 27 games of the season and averaged 6.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists. The Hawkeyes are off until Wednesday when they play the winner of Oregon and Maryland in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament.

Impact Combs has now been held to under double-digit points in seven straight game. The junior guard missed both of his attempts from the field against Northwestern and though he hit four free throws, his most since Nov. 18, it wasn't enough additional offense to power Iowa to victory. The Hawkeyes desperately need another scoring threat to step up alongside Bennett Srirtz, but Combs doesn't look like the answer in that department.

Impact Combs has now been held without double-digit points in three straight contests, but that's not the junior guard's game. He's been an all-around contributor for the Hawkeyes this season, and his four rebounds and four assists in the narrow win over USC represented that well. He struggled from the field, needing six shots to reach six points, but his work on the glass and as a passer was a positive contribution as Iowa won a huge game against the Trojans for a third consecutive victory.

Impact Combs bounced back from his quiet outing against UCLA when he scored zero points in the Hawkeyes' win. After taking just two shots in that game, he was way more assertive, putting up 10 shots against the Gophers and sinking 60 percent of them. Combs hadn't yet attempted double-digit shots this season, and only has double-digit points in three games thus far, so don't expect this to become a trend.

Impact Combs continues to play a minor role for the Hawkeyes. Even across the last seven games, in which he's been a starter, he's still only averaging 4.7 points, 2.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists. He's been very unselfish and solid as a facilitator, but hasn't been all that assertive as a scorer. Combs remains a key cog for Iowa, but don't expect him to stuff the stat sheet any time soon.

Impact Combs got his first start of the season against Chicago State, and while he only took two shots -- both three-pointers -- over 32 minutes of action, he did contribute as a facilitator with five assists. The Drake transfer won't be one to stuff the stat sheet this season, but he should quietly play an important role as a backup in Iowa's back court.
