Season likely over
Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl said Monday during his radio appearance on WJOX 690 Birmingham that Powell (concussion) is unlikely to play again in 2020-21.
Impact
While Powell took a notable step forward in his recovery from a concussion Saturday by attending Auburn's win over Tennessee, the freshman guard apparently has a ways to go before he's back in playing shape. According to Gina Han of AL.com, Powell was highly sensitive to light and found it difficult to focus on his schoolwork -- let alone take part in physical activity -- after he initially suffered the head injury Jan. 2, an indication that he was dealing with a fairly significant concussion. Powell has made strides in the past two months and has resumed weight-training activity, but he's missed too much time to realistically put himself in position to play again this season, according to Pearl. Powell should still gradually increase his activities in the weeks that come, and he'll likely receive full clearance well ahead of the 2021-22 season.

Making progress
Powell (concussion) was spotted on the bench in Saturday's 77-72 victory over Tennessee, Giana Han of AL.com reports.
Impact
Powell was able to return to lifting weights just over a week ago, but has yet to resume practicing with the team in an official capacity. The big story here is that the freshman was able to to deal with the lights and noise of a basketball arena for the first time in 56 days. Time may be running out for a return, however, as Auburn has just two more regular season games on the schedule and will be foregoing postseason play this season.

Could miss rest of season
Powell (concussion) has yet to return to practice, Justin Ferguson of AuburnObserver.com reports.
Impact
Powell hasn't played since Jan. 2 after suffering a concussion, and there's a chance it could force him to miss the rest of the season. Head coach Bruce Pearl said Friday it would take Powell two weeks of practice to return to playing shape. After Saturday's game at LSU, Auburn has only two weeks of games left due to their self-imposed postseason ban for this season, so Powell may not play again this season. Pearl said he won't rule him out yet, but Powell is running out of time to make a return.

Appears unlikely to play soon
Powell is still dealing with a concussion and doesn't appear close to a return, Tom Green of AL.com reports.
Impact
Head coach Bruce Pearl said Friday that Powell is doing alright but is missing his teammates, signaling Powell has not been able to practice lately. The freshman was off to strong start, averaging 11.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 0.9 steals over 27.8 minutes during his first 10 games. It's unclear when he'll make his return, but it doesn't seem likely he'll be back in the coming days. While Powell is out, Sharife Cooper and Devan Cambridge will continue to see the bulk of the work in Auburn's backcourt.

Deemed day-to-day
Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl said Monday that Powell remains day-to-day in his recovery from a concussion, Tom Green of AL.com reports.
Impact
Pearl noted that Powell is feeling better, but the freshman is still expected to need around two more weeks to clear the concussion protocol and prepare for a return to game action. Prior to suffering the head injury, Powell averaged 11.7 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.7 assists in 27.8 minutes per game over 10 appearances.

Not playing Saturday
Powell (concussion) is not expected to play Saturday at South Carolina, according to Josh Vitale of The Montgomery Advertiser.
Impact
Powell has already missed five games due to a concussion and he seems to be in line for a sixth straight absence, as he has struggled to recover since sustaining the injury. "Mentally, he's struggling because he wants to be out there," Auburn's head coach Bruce Pearl said. "But you can't be out there if you still have symptoms and you've got headaches. He's doing the best he can." Powell is averaging 11.7 points per game this season and his next chance to play would come against Missouri on Jan. 26.

Won't play Wednesday
Powell (concussion) won't play in Wednesday's game against Arkansas, Nathan King of 247Sports.com reports.
Impact
Powell will have to sit this one out as he continues to deal with a concussion he suffered over two weeks ago. Over 10 appearances this year, Powell is averaging 11.7 points and 6.1 rebounds. His next chance to take the floor looms Saturday at South Carolina.

Remains in concussion protocol

Won't play Saturday
Powell (concussion) will not play in Saturday's game against Kentucky, Jeff Goodman of WatchStadium.com reports.
Impact
Powell will miss a fourth consecutive game since suffering a concussion against Texas A&M on Jan. 2. It's unclear when the 6-6 freshman could be expected to return as head coach Bruce Pearl said Friday that he hasn't made continuous progress while in the team's concussion protocol. Auburn's next game will come against Arkansas on Jan. 20 which doesn't leave Powell with a whole lot of time to receive clearance before the Tigers next take the floor.

Remains day-to-day
Powell (head) remains day-to-day but hasn't made continuous progress in his concussion protocol, Jordan D. Hill of the Opelika-Auburn News reports.
Impact
Powell hasn't been officially ruled out for Saturday's game versus Kentucky, but Pearl's statement didn't sound particularly rosy in terms of his outlook. Sharife Cooper has likely locked down a starting job in his explosive performance since being deemed eligible by the NCAA, and Jamal Johnson has also performed well in his three starts since Powell went down. That could make for an interesting decision on whether or not Powell will retain a starting spot upon his clearance for action.

Not available Wednesday
Powell (head) won't be available to play Wednesday in Auburn's game at Georgia, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports.
Impact
The freshman will be sidelined for a third consecutive game due to the head injury. Fortunately for Auburn, Powell's ongoing absence has been cushioned to some extent by the arrival of another true freshman, Sharife Cooper, who was recently deemed eligible by the NCAA after sitting out the Tigers' first 11 games. Cooper stepped into the starting five for Powell in Saturday's 94-90 loss to Alabama and immediately made a splash in his Auburn debut, posting 26 points, nine assists, four rebounds and three steals in 33 minutes.

Gets in limited practice Monday
Powell (head) is still considered day-to-day ahead of Wednesday's game against Georgia, Josh Vitale of the Montgomery Advertiser reports.
Impact
Powell was able to practice in a limited capacity on Monday, but will likely be a game-time decision for Wednesday's game. Powell is still working his way back from a head injury suffered back on Jan. 2 against Texas A&M.

Not playing Saturday
Powell (head) has been ruled out of Saturday's contest against Alabama, according to Jeff Goodman of WatchStadium.com.
Impact
Powell already missed the Jan. 6 contest against Ole Miss, and he is in line for a second straight absence -- that would probably mean an expanded role for Allen Flanigan once again. In seven starts before going down with his injury, Powell averaged 12.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game. His next chance to feature will come Wednesday at Georgia.

Sits out practice
Powell (head) did not participate in practice Friday, Nathan King of 247Sports.com reports.
Impact
With Saturday's contest versus Alabama less than 24 hours away, Powell's absence from practice doesn't bode well for his chances of taking the floor versus the Crimson Tide. He hasn't been officially ruled out for Saturday's game at this point, but Allen Flanigan would likely serve as the team's primary point guard again Saturday if Powell can't give it a go.

Out Wednesday
Powell (head) won't play in Wednesday's game against Ole Miss, Nathan King of 247Sports.com reports.
Impact
Powell will need to take this one off after suffering a head injury during Auburn's loss to Texas A&M on Saturday. The freshman should be considered day-to-day leading up to the Tigers' next game against Alabama on Saturday. Jamal Johnson will earn his first start in Powell's place.
