Johnny Davis: 'I think I am forcing it a little too much right now' MADISON, Wis. — Before reporters could even start asking questions about his recent performances on Sunday afternoon, Johnny Davis got ahead...
FEBRUARY 7, 2022 • 247SPORTS.COM
In midst of shooting slump Davis notched four points (2-13 FG, 0-2 3Pt), nine rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one steal in 35 minutes during Saturday's 51-49 victory over Penn State.
Impact Davis was once among the top scorers in the nation, but he's now shooting just 32.8 percent from the field following this tough performance and a 5-for-19 effort against the Illini this week. He'll need to bounce back in a tough road matchup against Michigan State on Tuesday to ensure he stays in the NPOY conversation.
FEBRUARY 7, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Top contributor in loss Davis logged 22 points (5-19 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 11-14 FT), 15 rebounds and two assists in 37 minutes during Wednesday's 80-67 loss to Illinois.
Impact Davis had an inefficient night from the floor Wednesday, but he had plenty of opportunities from the charity stripe and led the team in scoring while also hauling in a team-high 15 rebounds. The Wooden Award candidate has now posted double-doubles in each of his last two appearances and has topped 20 points in three of the last five games.
FEBRUARY 3, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Nears double-double in win Davis logged 13 points (5-12 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 3-5 FT), nine rebounds, two assists and one steal across 31 minutes during Thursday's 73-65 win over Nebraska.
Impact Davis took a slight step back on the scoreboard after topping 25 points in each of the last two games, but he came within one rebound of a double-double in the win. The sophomore has been dominant since the start of the calendar year, as he's averaged 23.0 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 35.7 minutes per game.

Oscar Tshiebwe moves into top spot in Katz's POY Tiers
Puts up 27 in road win Davis posted 27 points (8-15 FG, 4-5 3Pt, 7-10 FT), eight rebounds, two assists and three steals in 38 minutes during Tuesday's 82-76 win over Northwestern.
Impact Davis was on a run from Dec. 4 through Jan. 6 in which he averaged a scorching 25.8 ppg, but cooled off a bit afterwards with performances of 19 and 14 points. He got back on track Tuesday in what was his third-highest scoring output of the season, bringing his average to 22.1 ppg -- good for fifth in the nation. The timing of his baskets was also pristine, as he was able to answer with a bucket each time Northwestern appeared to be gearing up to make a run. The All-American candidate next draws a stiff test when the Badgers host Michigan State on Friday night.
JANUARY 19, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Scores 14 despite inefficiency Davis posted 14 points (4-18 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 5-6 FT), nine rebounds, two assists and one steal in 34 minutes during Thursday's 78-68 victory over Ohio State.
Impact Davis continued to have plenty of shot volume in Thursday's victory, but he converted just 22.2 percent of his attempts from the floor. However, he was still one of three Badgers to score in double figures, and he came within a rebound of posting a double-double against the Buckeyes. The sophomore has emerged as a strong candidate for the Wooden Award and has averaged 23.2 points and 10.0 rebounds in 37.4 minutes per game across his last five appearances.

How Wisconsin Badgers' Johnny Davis found a new gear

Andy Katz charts Johnny Davis' rise to not only a star for the Badgers but also one of the best players in college hoops.

How Wisconsin Badgers' Johnny Davis found a new gear
Career day in Purdue upset Davis recorded a career-high 37 points (13-24 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 9-12 FT), 14 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals over 38 minutes during Monday's 74-69 win over Purdue.
Impact Davis is looking more and more like an All-American each time he hits the court, and unfortunately for Badgers fans, the likelihood of an early exit for the pro ranks appears to be increasing. On Monday, Davis took a team that has historically struggled at Mackey Arena and simply put them on his back. Three key Badger forwards fouled out of the contest against one of the best frontcourts in the nation, but it didn't matter because Davis kept making shots. He attempted (and made) more than twice as many field goals as any other Badger player, with Brad Davison the only other teammate to reach double figures. Davis was active on the glass on both ends of the court, and he even had one of the most athletic looking blocks you'll ever see on a breakaway dunk attempt in the second half. The Badgers weren't even considered a tournament team at the beginning of the season, but the play of Davis alone has elevated them to a squad that could win multiple games in March.
JANUARY 4, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Records double-double after layoff Davis posted 20 points (6-23 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 8-9 FT), 11 rebounds, four assists, one block and one steal across 43 minutes during Wednesday's 89-85 1OT win over Illinois State.
Impact Davis missed a Dec. 15 contest due to COVID protocol and the team subsequently had games canceled, so Wednesday was effectively his first real action since Dec. 11. It's no surprise his shot was a bit rusty as a result, but his overall volume and production in ancillary categories still made for a solid fantasy day. It was effectively a much-needed tune-up game before a road contest against Purdue on January 3, and while the Badgers will be underdogs there, Davis remains one of the top fantasy guards in the conference heading into Big Ten play.
DECEMBER 30, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Back in action Wednesday Davis (illness) is starting Wednesday against Illinois State.
Impact Davis missed the Dec. 15 matchup with Nicholls State due to an illness and COVID caused multiple cancelations over the past two weeks, and he'll return to the court for Wednesday's contest. Davis is averaging 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.6 steals in 33.3 minutes per contest this season.
DECEMBER 29, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Game called off The Badgers game against George Mason on Thursday has been called off due to COVID-19 issues within Wisconsin's program, Jeff Goodman of WatchStadium.com reports.
Impact Wisconsin joins the mass number of teams who are dealing with COVID-19 outbreaks across the country and have called the game off themselves after scheduling George Mason as a replacement opponent due to a COVID-19 cancelation from Morgan State. The team's next scheduled game arrives Dec. 29 against Illinois State.
DECEMBER 23, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Ruled out Wednesday with illness Davis (illness) will not be available for Wednesday's game against Nicholls State, Evan Flood of 247Sports reports.
Impact Davis is dealing with a non-COVID related illness. This is a big blow for the Badgers, as Davis was averaging 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.6 steals, and 1.6 three-pointers per game this season. Luckily they are not playing a Big Ten opponent tonight, but it will force other options to have to step up and contribute in the scoring column.
DECEMBER 15, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Remains productive in loss Davis racked up 24 points (11-22 FG, 2-7 3Pt), seven rebounds, three assists and three steals across 38 minutes during Saturday's 73-55 loss to Ohio State.
Impact The Badgers were unable to generate much offensive production in Columbus on Saturday, but Davis remained effective with his third consecutive game with 20-plus points. The sophomore has taken on a massive role for Wisconsin early in the 2021-22 season and could enter the conversation for Big Ten Player of the Year if his dominant results continue.
DECEMBER 11, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Leads second-half comeback Davis totaled 23 points (8-17 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 6-7 FT), nine rebounds, one assist and one block across 37 minutes during Wednesday's 64-59 victory over Indiana.
Impact The Badgers were missing several key backcourt depth pieces Wednesday, so it was up to program veterans like Davis and Brad Davison to shoulder most of the load. As he's done all season, Davis answered the call. He helped lead the Badgers from a 22-point deficit, and it was a corner three-pointer with 1:18 remaining that allowed Wisconsin to regain the lead and never look back. The win matched the largest come-from-behind victory in school history and also gives the Badgers an undefeated record with Davis in the lineup. A slow-paced Badger team rarely sees a 20.5 ppg scorer, but that's exactly what Davis is giving them as he plays his way into the all-Big Ten -- and possibly All-American -- conversation.
DECEMBER 9, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Leads Badgers on scoreboard Davis had 25 points (9-14 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 6-8 FT), five rebounds, one assist and one block across 30 minutes during Saturday's 89-76 victory over Marquette.
Impact Davis has taken on a prominent role for Wisconsin early in his sophomore season, and he's now scored 20-plus points in four of his last five appearances. During that time, he's averaged 22.2 points and 6.2 rebounds in 34.8 minutes per contest while shooting 50 percent from the floor.
DECEMBER 5, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Top contributor in win Davis racked up 30 points (10-18 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 6-6 FT), four rebounds, one assist, two blocks and four steals in 37 minutes during Tuesday's 65-63 win over Houston.
Impact Making his second appearance after sitting out the Badgers' 63-58 loss to Providence on Nov. 15 with a heel injury, Davis almost single-handedly carried Wisconsin to a victory over a previously unbeaten Houston squad that reached the Final Four last spring. The sophomore wing erupted for 11 of the Badgers' first 16 points, with his hot shooting from the field and three-point range aiding Wisconsin to a 20-point lead at halftime. Davis supplemented his offense with a bundle of defensive stats, making it easily the best performance of his young college career. He'll look to stay hot Wednesday, when Wisconsin faces 6-0 Saint Mary's in the championship game in Maui.
NOVEMBER 24, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Nears double-double in return Davis totaled 21 points (8-18 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 4-4 FT), nine rebounds, two assists and two steals across 38 minutes during Monday's 69-58 win over Texas A&M.
Impact Davis missed last week's loss to Providence with a heel injury, but he saw plenty of playing time in his return to the court. The sophomore led the team with career-best marks in scoring and rebounds, and he's taken on a prominent role as a member of the starting five early in the season.
NOVEMBER 23, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Will start in return Davis is in the starting lineup for Monday's game against Texas A&M.
Impact Davis has been dealing with a heel injury, but was already cleared last week. After missing last Monday's game he will return to action in the starting lineup for the first game of the Maui Invitational.
NOVEMBER 22, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Good to go Davis (heel) is back and ready to roll moving forward, Jeff Potrykus of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Impact Davis was unable to suit up for Monday's game against Providence due to a bruised heel but appears to be healthy and ready to contribute for the Badgers heading into Monday's game against Texas A&M. Davis should be one of the primary scorers for the Badgers and has gotten off to a strong start, averaging 15.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals through the first two games.
NOVEMBER 18, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Jonathan Davis out against Providence Davis is UW's leading scorer at 15 points per game.
NOVEMBER 16, 2021 • 247SPORTS.COM
Won't play Monday Davis won't play Monday against Providence due to a bruised heel, Jim Polzin of the Wisconsin State Journal reports.
Impact Davis apparently injured his heel during the first half of Friday's win against Green Bay. Per Polzin, Davis is expected to be available for next week's tournament beginning Monday against Texas A&M. Thus, with Davis sidelined versus the Friars, Tyler Wahl and Ben Carlson will likely see increased run.
NOVEMBER 15, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Productive in victory Davis produced 15 points (6-15 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 1-2 FT), three rebounds, five assists and two steals across 26 minutes during Tuesday's 81-58 win over St. Francis Brooklyn.
Impact Davis led the Badgers in scoring and was one of three starters to score in double figures in Tuesday's blowout win. The sophomore averaged 7.0 points and 4.1 rebounds in 24.4 minutes per game while playing exclusively off the bench last year, but he's in line for a starting role to begin the 2021-22 season.
