Impact The Bearcats were waiting for the return of James, and the star guard didn't disappoint with a strong stat line despite logging only 20 minutes. James should see steady minutes now that he's healthy, and it wouldn't be surprising if he moves back into a starting role in the near future.

Impact James has yet to play this season as he's dealt with a personal matter, but the guard appears slated to return against Alabama State in the Bearcats' penultimate out-of-conference game. Last season, James averaged 12.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists, and should immediately resume his role as a difference maker on the court for Cincinnati.

Impact It has been almost four months since Cincinnati dismissed James from the team's basketball program for undisclosed reasons. About a month and a half into the 2025-26 Bearcats' regular season, they have added him back to their roster, with the reasons for his dismissal and return both unknown. Regardless, James adds guard depth to a Cincinnati side the only Big 12 Conference team with less than seven wins this season. During his 2024-25 season with UC, he logged 35 games (all starts) with 12.7 points, 3.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.3 three-pointers made per game. According to Neil Meyer of The Front Office News, room was available for James with the team unable to clear Lucas Atauri for its roster. Now, the question is when exactly James will make his 2025-26 debut, with his first opportunity scheduled for Wednesday against Alabama State.

With the Bearcats unlikely to hear their name called on Selection Sunday, James and his teammates will wait to see if they get a return invite to the NIT.
