Unavailable Monday Cottrell (foot) has been ruled out for Monday's regular-season opener against Southern, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports.

Impact Cottrell was in a walking boot in late September and continues to deal with the foot injury to begin the regular season. While he'll be unavailable Monday, coach Kevin Kruger said in late October that Cottrell should be able to return to full strength shortly after the regular-season opener. The transfer from West Virginia will have a few days to recover before UNLV faces Incarnate Word on Nov. 12.

Impact Cottrell has been dealing with this foot injury for about a month now. He was a consistent starter a year ago for West Virginia where he averaged 4.2 points and 2.8 rebounds per game. Cottrell is in position to push for a starting spot again with UNLV when healthy. If he can't go in the opener, then Nov. 12 against Incarnate Word or Nov. 15 against Dayton seem like logical return options.
