GAME LOG

Struggles in reserve role Hayes logged two points (1-4 FG, 0-2 3Pt), one assist and one steal across 14 minutes during Saturday's 83-81 loss to Florida State.
Impact Hayes went scoreless on 0-for-6 shooting in a Dec. 29 matchup against Miami, and that led to him coming off the bench for the first time this season. He didn't seem to respond well, collecting more turnovers (3) than points scored (2). It's been a swift downturn in production considering this is a player who reached double figures nine times in 10 games earlier this season, but it looks like he'll have to earn back his spot, starting with another ACC matchup Tuesday at Virginia Tech.
JANUARY 2, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Coming off bench Hayes isn't starting Saturday's game against Florida State.
Impact Hayes had started each of the first 13 games of the season but will come off the bench Saturday. Thomas Allen will take his place in the starting five.
JANUARY 1, 2022 • ROTOWIRE
Stuffs stat sheet Sunday Hayes ended with 12 points (5-9 FG, 2-3 3Pt), five rebounds, two assists and one steal over 30 minutes during Sunday's 82-72 overtime loss to Purdue.
Impact The sophomore point guard bounced back from an ugly game against Boston College on Dec. 9 (six points on 1-10 FG) and delivered a strong outing in which he stuffed the stat sheet with ease. Hayes has now scored in double digits in all but two games this season.
DECEMBER 14, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Solid all-around effort Saturday Hayes supplied 14 points (3-7 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 8-8 FT), three rebounds, five assists and one steal over 27 minutes during Saturday's 90-81 win over Louisiana Tech.
Impact Hayes has scored in double digits in five games in a row, but he's doing more than just scoring and can also provide value in other areas. He's averaging 11.8 points, 3.0 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game.
NOVEMBER 28, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Records 12 points in win Hayes posted 12 points (5-7 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-5 FT), three rebounds, four assists and one steal over 25 minutes during Sunday's 65-57 win over Texas Southern.
Impact Hayes extended his streak of games with at least 10 points to four appearances, but he needs to find a way to improve in terms of efficiency when it comes to his shooting. Despite scoring 11.4 points per game, he's shooting just 39.2 percent from the field.
NOVEMBER 23, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Plays through cramping Hayes had 10 points (3-5 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 2-4 FT), one rebound, three assists and one steal over 22 minutes during Tuesday's 79-65 win over Central Connecticut State.
Impact Hayes saw less than his usual workload in this contest, which Rivals.com reports was due to ongoing cramping issues. Still, he was one of three Wolfpack players in double figures as the team improved to 3-0 on the season. Freshman Terquavion Smith saw some extra point guard minutes off the bench as a result of Hayes being limited, but given the mild nature of the injury, Hayes should be set to serve as the primary ball handler moving forward.
NOVEMBER 17, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Scores season-high 20 points Hayes notched 20 points (7-11 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 3-4 FT), four rebounds, three assists and two steals across 27 minutes in Wednesday's win at Notre Dame.
Impact Hayes has scored in double digits in four of his last five contests, but he delivered his best scoring output of the campaign here thanks to an excellent shooting performance -- he registered a season-high mark in shots made and tied his season-high mark for field-goal attempts. Hayes is closing out the season on a strong note and is averaging 12.8 points per game over his last five appearances.

Scores in double digits again Hayes posted 16 points (3-5 FG, 3-4 3Pt, 7-8 FT), three rebounds and two steals across Wednesday's win over Virginia.
Impact Hayes paced the Wolfpack in the win and also recorded a team-high two steals. He was particularly sharp from three-point range, drilling three of his four shots from behind the arc.
FEBRUARY 26, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Back in starting lineup Hayes is in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against Pittsburgh.
Impact Hayes will be making his seventh start of the season. The freshman has been averaging 6.1 points and 3.0 assists in 19.5 minutes per game. He did not start last time out against Duke.
FEBRUARY 17, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Not in starting group Hayes won't start Saturday's clash with Duke.
Impact Hayes is one of two players moving out of the starting group Saturday, and it's been reported, per Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer, that there has been a stomach bug going through the locker room. It's unclear if that is at play in Hayes' case or if he's simply just part of a lineup change.
FEBRUARY 13, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Not starting Saturday Hayes will come off the bench for Saturday's game against North Carolina, C.L. Brown of The Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Impact Hayes started the past three games, but Braxton Beverley will get the start instead. Hayes still figures to remain involved, as he's averaging 8.2 points, 3.8 assists and 1.4 steals over 16.4 minutes per game this year when coming off the bench.
JANUARY 23, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Starting Wednesday Hayes is in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against Florida State.
Impact Hayes and Shakeel Moore will be getting the start in this one over Braxton Beverly and Thomas Allen. It's not clear why exactly, but it's something to monitor for this game and going forward.
JANUARY 13, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Scores eight points in first start Hayes notched eight points (3-6 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), two reounds and an assist across 23 minutes in Tuesday's overtime loss at Clemson.
Impact Hayes started a college game for the first time in his career and didn't have much of an impact, although his eight-point tally was his highest since he recorded 17 points in a win over UML back on Dec. 3. He is averaging 8.2 points per game while shooting an impressive 54.1 percent from the floor as a freshman.
JANUARY 6, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Getting start Tuesday Hayes will start Tuesday's game against Clemson.
Impact Hayes will make his first career start with Braxton Beverly out with an ankle injury. Hayes is averaging 8.2 points, 4.0 assists, and 1.4 steals per game.
JANUARY 5, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Available to play Tuesday Hayes (undisclosed) is available to play in Tuesday's game against North Carolina.
Impact Hayes will end his two game absence on Tuesday for an undisclosed issue. It's not clear if he will be directly inserted back into the starting lineup yet or not, however. Hayes is averaging 11.3 points, 5.3 assists, and 2.0 steals per game this season.
DECEMBER 22, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Uncertain to play Tuesday Hayes (undisclosed) is considered a game-time decision for Tuesday's tilt with North Carolina, Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports.
Impact Hayes and DJ Funderburk (undisclosed) will presumably be evaluated during the Wolfpack's shootaround and pregame warmups before the coaching staff makes a call shortly before the 9 p.m. ET tipoff on whether either player is fit to a return from a two-game absence. If Hayes remains sidelined, Braxton Beverly and Shakeel Allen would likely take on more ball-handling responsibilities.
DECEMBER 22, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Out again Saturday Hayes (undisclosed) will miss Saturday's game against Campbell, Pack Pride reports.
Impact Hayes is set for his second consecutive absence for an undisclosed reason, leaving the Wolfpack down a major contributor again. Fortunately, the Wolfpack should be able to take care of business Saturday without him, but Tuesday's game against North Carolina would prove much more challenging if he can't return for that contest. Look for Braxton Beverly to see the most time on the ball with Hayes sidelined.
DECEMBER 19, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Not available Thursday Hayes did not travel with the team and is not available for Thursday's game against St. Louis for undisclosed reasons, Stu Durando of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Impact Hayes is joined by DJ Funderburk and three other NC State players on the list of unavailable players Thursday. Though Hayes has come off the bench thus far this season, he will certainly be missed Thursday. The freshman guard averages 11.3 points and 5.3 assists through his first three collegiate games.
DECEMBER 17, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Big game off bench once again Hayes recorded 17 points (7-12 FG, 3-6 3Pt), six assists and a steal in 21 minutes off the bench during Thursday's 90-59 win over UMass.
Impact Hayes started on the bench for the third straight contests, but the fact that he ranked third in minutes played -- behind only Devon Daniels and Jericole Hellems -- suggests the coaching staff still rates him highly and are just taking him slowly. The freshman has now posted back-to-back double-digit scoring games and his figures have been rising steadily, so it might be just a matter of time before he earns his first college start. That might happen as soon as Saturday at Connecticut.

Thrives off bench Hayes posted 13 points (6-8 FG, 1-2 3Pt), six assists and a steal across 19 minutes off the bench during Friday's 86-51 win over North Florida.
Impact Hayes started preseason as a candidate to become the Wolfpack's starting point guard and while that hasn't been the case yet, he delivered a strong case to earn the job Friday in limited minutes. This was an improved effort compared to what he did in the season opener where he only registered four points while making just one of his five shots from the field. He does have 10 assists in his two appearances so far, so his passing ability and court vision have been as good as advertised. He might have to settle for a bench role Monday against William & Mary, but he seems to be trending in the right direction after an underwhelming debut.
