Cade Tyson - College Basketball News & Rumors

Sidelined for Friday exhibiton Tyson (not injury related) is out for the Gophers' exhibition clash with Creighton on Friday night, per Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.

Impact Tyson is still seeking a fifth year of eligibility, and he sat out the Gophers' previous exhibition game against Omaha as well. He was Minnesota's best player last season, averaging 19.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists, but his continued absences from exhibitions doesn't bode well for his availability for the 2026-27 season.

Returns to Minnesota Tyson has returned to Minnesota for the 2026-27 season, though he is still seeking a fifth year of eligibility, per Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.

Impact Tyson is set to rejoin the Golden Gophers for the upcoming season if he is granted a fifth year of eligibility. For the time being, he will practice with the team while awaiting a decision on his full playing status. If he is able to return, it would be a huge addition, considering the 6-foot-7 forward was the leading scorer last year after averaging 19.6 points per game.

Hits portal with no eligibility Tyson will enter the transfer portal, although he is out of eligibility, per On3.

Impact The only way Tyson can play another season of college basketball is if he's granted a waiver by the NCAA, or if the NCAA changes its rules and implements the "five-for-five" rule or something similar before he graduates. Tyson erupted for the Gophers as a senior, averaging 19.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists on 50/41/82 shooting splits. The 6-foot-7 wing would be heavily sought-after, but there's no guarantee he can even play next season.

Leads Gophers with 21 points Tyson racked up 21 points (7-14 FG, 3-4 3Pt, 4-4 FT) and two rebounds in 38 minutes during Wednesday's 77-47 loss to Indiana.

Impact Tyson is closing his senior season in style. He has scored at least 20 points in his last four games and has played all but six available minutes in the last six games. Over that span, the 6-7 guard is converting 56.4 percent of his 3-pointers and is averaging 20.5 points and 6.3 rebounds. Minnesota closes Big Ten play the same way the team started it: against Northwestern. Tyson had 24 points, five rebounds and a season-high six assists in the Jan. 3 win over the Huskies.

Helps knock off UCLA Tyson posted 21 points (8-12 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal across 37 minutes during Saturday's 78-73 victory over UCLA.

Impact Tyson is now averaging a spectacular 22.7 ppg over his last three, going 15-for-24 (62.5 percent) from distance over that span. Minnesota has quietly won three of its last four to improve to 7-11 in Big Ten play, though it still likely needs a miracle to see an NCAA Tournament berth. Nonetheless, it's clearly a different program and culture under head coach Niko Medved, and Tyson's remarkable bounce-back year has sparked it.
