Boum scores 23, Xavier routs Morgan State 96-73 in opener
CINCINNATI (AP) — Souley Boum’s 23 points helped Xavier defeat Morgan State 96-73 in a season opener on Monday night.
Boum also contributed five steals for the Musketeers. Jack Nunge scored 16 points and added eight rebounds and three blocks. Colby Jones recorded 15 points and shot 3 of 8 from the field and 9 for 12 from the line.
The Bears were led in scoring by David McCullough, who finished with 16 points and three steals. Isaiah Burke added 16 points and four steals for Morgan State. Kamron Hobbs also had 14 points and four steals.
Xavier was outscored by Morgan State in the second half by a one-point margin, but still wound up on top, while Nunge led the way with a team-high 10 second-half points.
NEXT UP
Xavier plays Friday against Montana at home, and Morgan State hosts Penn State-Greater Allegheny on Thursday.
